GM was brilliant in the design of the main A/C hose...

Have any of y'all successfully removed this line without removing the power steering lines as well. What were these guys thinking. I'm at a turning point in working on this car. Leave the old 14 year old line and pray she holds, or put my muscles on it, yank it out, and pray I can get the new line in without damaging it.

Anyone have the home addresses of the engineers that designed the accessories on these cars? Please PM them to me, I would like to write them a love letter.

BTW, passenger header is out, as is the alternator and A/C compressor.

It's just a fact that you are going to run into things that don't make your life easier for maintenance. All you can do is deal with it.

Dude I'm living with the same issue right now as I'm doing a motor pull video. I wanted to keep the a/c sealed but when I noticed the power steering lines I was like "****"...lol. Unless you have an 18mm line wrench to get off the nut on the rack I wouldn't try it. It's easy to get the resoivoir lined snaked through but without that 18mm wrench for the rack rounding that nut off is super easy. I rounded mine to much using a regular wrench so I priced one for only $20. I'm just gonna cut the line and hammer a socket on it and spend the $20 for a line that probably could use replacing anyways rather than crack open the a/c lines which could cost more than $100 to refill...I'm going to be reinstalling the power steering lines underneath the a/c lines if at all possible upon putting the motor back in I promise you that!

Is there a problem with the line? I guess I don't understand why you are trying to remove it.

^ It's the old "While I'm in here" theory. There is a leak somewhere in the A/C system, so I was gonna update the old hardware with new. Everything else came out with ease, but this is being a beotch. I've had this car forever, and doubt I'll ever sell it, and I hate working on it, so when I do I replace much stuff. What's on the list:

Polyurethane motor mounts.
All A/C stuff (except evaporator)
Plugs
Wires
Header Gaskets
Electric H2O pump
Tensioner Pulley
Remove non-working ABS and replace with kit from SJM Manufacturing.
Remove Intake and fix common rear leak (have it powder coated while it's out).

Guess that's it, unless I break a Power Steering pump/lines, then those will be replaced as well.
