Get new heads before you go with a cam that big.

Id look at the GM846 cam, its a sweet little cam. Its alot like the CC305, but has a tad bit more intake duration and exhaust lift. Its also ground on a 112.

There are alot of cams out there, but the 847 is a huge cam.

I have the 847, but in a 383 with 11 to 1 compression. it has a lovely lope in my motor and makes power as high as I want (6500). I would not reccomend this cam for a stock LT1 unless the person can put up with the surging, loping, and lack of power below 3000 rpm. Add some nice flowing heads and some compression and the story changes though, but its still a big cam for a daily street driven car.

the 847 is a fine cam for stock heads.....its certainly not too big........however, you should definetly get the major bolton mods (headers, exhaust, etc) before putting in the cam.

and all those problems you mentioned are due to lack of good tuning.......a skilled tuner can have the car running smooth with no probs.

of course its going to work better with ported heads.........but all cams will.........might as well go big now, and then get the ported heads later when you can afford it.

and btw.......since no one actually tried to answer your question...........people with stock heads and boltons usually dyno around 350rwhp with the GM847.

the GM847 I would consider a small cam compared to what I have it barely ever surged unless I was stupid in driving, pulled from 2k all the way to 7k no probs.

20-30 hp probably.........you should definetly feel the difference.......just make sure you get an LT4 knock module............and youll notice even more difference if you get the car tuned properly after.

Here comes the LT4 knock module debate....about the LT4 module being designed for an LT4 knock sensor.

No jsut search for it, all I know is its a little less sensitive to knock but its still pretty darn sensitive, hence why my KR table is zeroed out.
