give me the DL on spring installation...
give me the DL on spring installation...
i got lt4 spring kit from Dal (thanks again Dal)
1. do i really have to do a compression test on these or does gm test them...
2. will my install height be 1.78"
3. what are the install tolerences, shims only come in two sizes (i only have one size)
4. will i screw this up
5. do i even have to measure the install height since every thing is oem/gm stock parts
i just need some guidance, i'm more mechanicaly inclined than not... i just like to do this stuff myself and learn... i just don't want to learn from trial and error on this one...
thanks guys

I know a lot of people who don't really measure install height, especially for small cams, but it's always recommended.
If by compression test on the springs you mean get them verified, then you can, but you shouldn't have to.
Every set of heads is different, so no one can say exactly what your install height will be.
You probably won't screw it up unless you forget something or drop a valve into a cylinder.
Basically, take your time and do everything correctly and slowly. Check out shoebox's site if you haven't already on the proper procedures.

i thought you shimmed your spring to get the height of where the spring is to be at in the seated position...
i.e. lt4 and lt1 springs should be installed at a height of 1.78"
so if i put the micrometer on my valve stem and i get a reading of 1.84" then iwould need to install a .06" shim, correct?
is this wrong...

You have a valve spring micrometer? You really need to use that with the seats, retainers and locks that you're going to use to get the correct installed height. You can make the height shorter, but not taller.
i know how to measure spring install height...
i want to know why and what your spring install height is based off of...
i know it's based off of you measurement, but how do you know what your target height is?
i am either missing something minor or i am a total retard...
