Talking Give The K&n Cai Air!!!!!!!!!!

I just got done cutting a hole in the plastic underneath the car right where the K&N filter comes down to the plastic under the engine bay. I removed the plastic under the car where the filter goes and took a box cutter knife and cut a hole in the platic 2 down the side and 1 across so there was a little ramp so the air could feed right to the filter. i believe this would actually make a difference in the 1/4. maybe .05!!!!!!!! this is because i really have no idea how the intake was getting air. think about it. the only way air can get to the filter is getting air is through the little slits but they are even pointing the wrong way! get under the car and look this makes sense. The hole i cut you can see the filter just by getting down on the ground and looking. The only problem i am having is that when it rains i hesitate to drive my car because the filter gets soaked. And when i drive down the road debris may spray up and hit the filter. I am going to make a screen and i am going to put a hinge on the"ramp" so i can close it when it rains or if i have to go down a garvel road. Plaese reply back if you have done this or try it and tell me what you think. This makes sense and it will feed more AIR

Originally, I was going to post that this mod wouldn't do much for you... however, after thinking about it a bit, feel free to experiment!! That's part of owning these cars... I may make a suggestion that you use the wealth of info and resources on this board before trying future mods...

Enjoy

Is to prevent this:

Maybe you can put some kind of screen around the filter to stop debris from hitting it. As for the rain i don't know

I have been thinking about doing something like that too! I was going to make an aluminum scoop that would face forward (free ram air mod) but I was also going to make it so that I could simple push it up and close it with a simple pin when it rains or there is a lot of debris around. I was also going to put a screen in it as well!
If you do it...let us know how it turns out!!!

I made one by cutting out a hole in the box with the little slits, and buying a Dryer-Vent( the kind that mounts on the outside of your house ), and just screwing it to the hole. That way it can suck in the air, and the vent already comes with a little door, or cover. You can just open and close it as you please. The best part was that it only costed about $5 and it took an hour to do. I have had no problems with water or debris.

Ive had the hole cutout in mine for over two years and havent had any problems. Ofcourse it doesnt rain in Vegas much. I had a little aluminum scoop screwed in but it got knocked off while pulling into a driveway and I just left it off. I realy do beleive it helps supply air to the K&N.

leadfoot94 you are a man after my own heart. (don,t take that too literally)
I took off both front splash shields years ago and ran some dryer duct hose right to the filter, besides having to clean the filter more often I have not seen any probs and I would swear this mod helps me at the track. Alot of guys on here don,t think so though.

I made a scoop for mine...its from aluminum siding that used to be on my house. I would think it would help a lot, but have yet to get any times since the mod...as for rain and debris...well that just makes it look that much prettier after you clean later

I took the whole bottom plastic cover off and cut a hole about 3X bigger than my k & N filter. I then cut a piece of SS mesh ( with about 1/8" openings) and bolted it over the opening from the inside. I then put all this back on the car. I swear it made a difference in throttle response. I don't drive my car in the rain, but I carry a roll of premium duct tape in the car so if I am out and it starts raining, I can just cover the hole from the bottom until I get home. The hinge idea is great. I wish I would have thought of that before. I was going to try the dryer vent thing, however, my car sits too low, and it would be ripped off in about 3 miles. IMO this is worthwhile. In the process of fabbing up a piece of SS in the form of a very low scoop in the form of the dryer vent, just much higher.
