Getting Heads ported... Couple of ?'s

Ok so I blew a head gasket and now I am getting my heads ported. I'm getting a full port done to them by a reputable local shop... Here is my question. Should i have the intake manifold gasket matched?? They said they would charge 150 for it, I HAVE the money if i need to... Should I? Is it worth it? Also, should i get the stock lifters replaced by a good set of Comp R's? THanks guys.

What cam are you running? if you are running a XE cam larger than 224/230 or a cam with lots of lift like the CC306 i would get Comp R's. Don't waste your money on the intake porting. Do a search. Many of the Pro's say its not worth the time or money.

I guess its worth the money if they do the work correctly. I was told the gains arent made from gasket matching anything.. heads or intake. So if they tell you all thats getting done is some gasket matching then save you cash.

I have a hotcam but i am getting alot of ticking from driver side RR and people have told me it sounds like a lifter not pumping up all the way... but i dunno. So most people dont port their intake manifold??

Re: Getting Heads ported... Couple of ?'s

In my experience with lt1's, we've never had issues making 480-500hp NA with the stock manifold, which is a fair amount over the "400rwhp" everyone always wants with manual cars. Even trying to make more than 500hp, a simple well ported manifold is all I'd ever do in most cases. With some of the #'s I've seen race setups make with these manifolds, I'm not 100% convinced theyre a huge bottle neck. We'll know soon enough however, as we've got some higher hp packages going together now that should push it, and since we're doing them instead of customers we'll be able to monitor all of our test conditions & know for sure whats going on

I ported mine but I am well past the 500hp mark. Save your money.
