You can't. The only way you could would be to yank all the fuel injection and carb it...and that's not practical.

ya i got a chip from ed wright a long time ago...he said he could just put in a default or something and have it run in open loop or closed loop....i forget its been awhile...wanted like 50 bucks for it too shoulda gone with pcmforless

Do you know if he would just make it run at a stock a/f ratio or something better for the hotcam? does it matter?

thanks

Is it because of the MAF? No way you could do that with an SD, though.

Wow this sounds interesting. So I can have my O2s programmed out? Will this make the car run like crap? -----------> Brad

You cannot have "Closed Loop" operation without an O2 sensor. You can program the PCM to stay in Open Loop and ignore the O2 sensors, but why? You would loose the fuel trim capabilities of the PCM. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get the sensors to funtion properly with headers.

I've got a 93 so I didn't have heated sensors with long tubes and could never get them to work right. Did the heated mod and now they work fine.

Long term efficiency is not going to be as good without the O2s. They were not put there just for show. I agree with GMTech.

Why is it that when people have trouble with something, the first inclination is to "take it out"? What happened to troubleshooting and repairing?

This is far far far from my first inclination. I've spent months trying to troubleshoot and repair them. They have worked at a few points in time. I once narrowed it down to being a bad ground on the motor. Ive gone through and taken all the computer plugs apart and cleaned the terminals. I have gone back and forth between my stock single wire o2 sensors and the heated ones. Spent upwards of 100 dollars on o2 sensors. Thing is they always seem to still **** up for some reason and Im sick of messing with them and throwing money at them. It's a 93' so I do have speed density if that makes a difference which i think it does. Also, I only have shorty headers so heated sensors. The only time the SES light will come on is after about 5-10 minutes of driving at highway speeds.

But hey, I am all ears to any suggestions. Thats why I posted this partly. I guess my best option is just to get another chip with it set to run in "Open Loop." I just pray it makes my car get better gas milage. Im actually kinda worried about that because shouldn't the car already be in Open Loop unless im driving on the highway (where it tries to go into closed loop i think?)?

I was pointing fingers at folks [people] in general and not directly at you.

There are so many posts with "how do I get rid of" content, when it's really not necessary.

just so you know, if u change the o2s, and u still have probs, its not o2s, its ur car/or wiring to the o2
