Get heads ported locally or go with Lloyd Elliot?

Hey you all, what kind of gain should I be looking at (ballpark figure here)? Here's my ride in a nutshell: 94 Z w/stock motor, 1.6 RR's, Powerdyne 7.5 PSI (staying with those pullies), stock TB, Hooker LT's. Currently at 384 RWHP and 402 RWTQ. I will be changing nothing other than the heads and the tuning will be optimized on a dyno. I will drop compression just a tad to make the blower safer (via opening up the combustion chambers) ....we're talking .5 drop in compression if even that.
Is 425 RWHP realistic or a bit optimistic?

Not to burst the bubble but
ported heads show a much smaller gain on a blower application than on NA
with a blower it's best to have work done on the exhaust side than the intake side
stock cam is ok better than some (hot cam) worse than others.
On the good side you will see improvement in the low rpm band - before boost kicks in ( have the porting done to favour low lift numbers) but will likely see little gains at 6000RPM.
As well while power may increase a little bit the good(?) news is that boost levels will decrease as the restriction is reduced - - so you will make the same power but at say 6# and never see7# again.
bottom line - no (or small) increase in max Hp or TQ - nice gain in the area under the curve

That seems to be what Lloyd thinks too, but not quite as skeptical of peak power increase as you. He is guessing that I would see a 20 HP gain at the top and maybe more down mid to low. He said he generally ports to favor low and mid lift numbers. I suppose if it made 20 more across most of the graph that would actually be quite an increase.
Like you said though, it will make more power at a lower boost level and at a lower CR level ....which we know is good for piston longevity and octane requirements. I still think I'll follow through with it. I guess the real power gain will come when a cam is put in someday

I'd think hard on it as re and re heads is a bit of a PiTA and run ya a couple of hundred on gaskets and fluid even if ya do it your self plus the port job plus shipping.
Doing a cam and leaving the heads alone for now would be a lot cheaper
well you will make a bit more power with better flow - likley more from exhaust improvements - decreasing the CR will cost you a few Hp as well - nothing major but I think it's 3-4% per point of compression so at 350 hp that's a 10-15 hp fall offset by the increase in hp due to better flow.
Unless your doing the re and re i don't think it makes financial sense. wait till you blow a ring and then do it all

~275/190 is a max port on LT1 heads...good luck finding better #'s...if anything maybe a few points on either side...but 275/190 is approximated for a full LT1 head port...
If that's not enough, I'd suggest porting a pair of LT4 heads instead...
