German made synthetic oil?
German made synthetic oil?
So I've read on here quite alot about Castrol (I think) synthetic oil made in Germany. What is better about it, and where can I get it? Does Wal-Mart sell it? I've been using Mobil 1 10w-30 for the last few changes. What weight would be best? I've heard that sythetic is usually a little thinner, so that's why I went with the 10-30.
Hmmm
Doesnt now why it should be better, here in sweden (europe) the us car dealers brags about american oil for american cars (76) eaven the penzoil brags about there american oil. The only oils that i never have heard negative things about here is quaker state and mobil
. Dont think its any big diffrence between the premium brands the discussion is more synthetic or not?
I personally go mineral in the z28 and shift it more often, and in the mitsu i use semi synthet and change it every 25000miles.

Sorry did a little misscalculating when i converted from Km to miles
Should be 9300
But im sure the mitsu should run after 25000 also
When i worked for a honda dealer i saw a car wich have run 40250 mile whit the same oil, That wasent a nice sight.

I am a 3rd genner moving up the the 4th gen world and over at the thirdgen board( www.thirdgen.org) there where always discussones over oil and what to use and not what to use, after many many posts and reading this is what i am come away with,
1) AMSOIL, Mobil 1, and Catsrol GTX(for the dino oil guys) are the best choices for daily drivers
2) Stay the HELL AWAY from Fram filters, seriosly go look up oil filters over at thirdgen.org and find the post with the oil filter study....ahh, what the hell i will find it and post it here....
3) And the best thing is just to plain ol' change your oil every 3,000 miles. Does not matter what oil or filter, but as long as you change it it is better then not.
I change my oil as if my engine was God, only the best for him, ACDelco filter and M1 for the IROC and Purolater and M1 for the Z/28. If there is one thing i can't stress the most is changing your oil and filter every 3,000 miles no matter what filter or oil you run.

yep autozone has it 0-30.. seems a bit low.. may try it though..
second on the fram filter thing.. two years ago the company had to buy my father a new engine for his lincoln because of a malfunctioning filter.. turned out to be good for him, got an oil change and ended up with a nice 0 mile replacement engine.. but that is a rarity..

The German made Castrol Syntec 0w30 is actually Formula SLX 0w30, which is an extremely good oil! I'm using it in my Firebird and have seen very low engine wear in oil analysis. Same with in my sister's old car too, it did extremely well.
It's got a thicker hot viscosity than most 10w30s and 5w30s, it's on the thick end of the 30wt range, and in my experience it doesn't thin out like many oils do (such as Royal Purple, which thinned out badly in just 2500 miles in my wife's car)
As an example of how well this slightly thicker oil can protect your bearings, in my oil analysis, I only saw 3.6ppm of lead in 3100 miles. Most LT1s that are driven hard will show at least 10ppm of lead or more in this amount of driving!
This oil is only available in Autozone in the US, but in Canada it's more common, it's in Walmart and some Canadian Tire stores.
There aren't many oils with the cold flow abilities of this one either, it has a pour point of -81F!! So it truly is a very versatile oil, you can use it in the coldest winter, and because of it's thicker hot viscosity, it can handle the hottest summer weather too.

As Patman verified the German Castrol Syntec 0W 30 does well in all oil analysis and testing that is on the net or in print to date in comparisons with other snythetics, blends and dino. It also lasts longer which will allow for safer longer intervals.
It is a "thicker" oil than you would be led to believe by its weight.
I started to use it at 100,XXX miles after a lifetime of Mobil 1 5W 30 and 10W 30; and, stock up on it whenever I find it in autozone.
