General Car Problem, Lights flickering

This is on my daily beater.....its a 93 Ford Taurus GL.

All of the sudden, i am driving home today from girlfriends house, and the front headlights like turn off for a second, then turn back on, stay on for like 5, then do over...then it does the proccess for like 10 mins, then stops for a few, then keeps going again.

No particular pattern, as in repeats every so often. Seemed to happen only when engine was running, happened more when radio/fan were on, when turned off, happens alot less.

What could it be? I was guesing alternator.

Cool

Sounds like the coil going south.(A good way to see this is when you pull up to the garage door at night, the headlights will flicker).Hope this helps.

dont think that it is a short, because today was fine, and if I left the car on it would happen, however when the lights were running off of the battery, they would not flicker, so doubt it is a short.....

Coil? how would that work? and dont have a garage door opener, how else to test.

GARAGE DOOR OPENER? What the heck are you talking about?

I think you're confused. He meant when you pull up to any surface you can see them flickering. I don't know if he's right, but I can't say he's wrong. Its worth a shot
