gen1 v gen2 optis

i couldn't find via search any definitive answers. i'm trying to use a custom cam from a gen1 type and transfer it to a gen2 type. is it possible?

i know that the opti's are driven differently, splined shaft from the cam center and offset dowel pin, respectively. is it just a matter of not using the splined shaft and removing the original dowel pin and pressing in a longer one? i'm also going w/ a double roller set. what is the correct p/n to use from cloyes? summit lists a 1/2" pitch HD roller for $34X, is this just the ED LT4 set or something new?

TIA for the help.

Re: gen1 v gen2 optis

Never have heard anyone call them by "gen1 or 2", but this site describes the differences: http://para.noid.org/~muttvette/opti.html . The cam must have the larger hole in the front as well as the dowel pin change.

I think the Cloyes set is 9-3145 (you might want to verify). It is not like the LT4 ED set. The Cloyes must be used with an electric water pump, because it has no provision to run the mechanical water pump.

Re: gen1 v gen2 optis

wow! heck of a good link... thanks! pictures were a bit dark but more than enough to decipher. i searched and concur that is the recommended cloyes p/n. i haven't seen one, but judging from the frequency of use among members, it does have a large enough center for the opti to pass through. still haven't figured out what the heck summit is trying to pass off for 3 bills? maybe it's a roller that allows use w/o switching to an electric H2O pump. thanks again!!!

Pay close attention to those cam front drilling pics.. that's the key to whether you can use it on the later opti or not...
