Gears or Suspension?
Gears or Suspension?
I was wondering what I should do next.
I have an XE 230/236 with a 383 and 3200 high stall.
I smoke the tires through first gear. Car seems to pull ok alright until 3rd gear where I guess it could be better. But off the line is pure wheel spin.
I have 3.23s right now. Would I benefit from 3.73s with this cam or should I do a torque arm and some stickier tires?
I'm running Nittos, Spohn LCAs, relocation brackets, and SFCs. Also my rear end seems to sit a little high.

If you have no traction now, going to steeper gears will only make it worse. IMO, the real purpose of gears is to get/keep you in the power band of your particular engine. IOW, gears should compliment your set-up. Power and traction go hand-in-hand at the strip. I would say, once you get some traction, then you might want to play with gears. Of course, then you might be breaking rear ends. Bottom line is, you won't get any good times if you can't get some traction first.
I agree with Shoebox, knowing what I know now, I would have done my suspension work before the gears.
I would have been able to see what I could do with the power I already had.
With the way the car hooks now I wish I would have done the suspension before anything else really.
