Thumbs up Which gears to get????

I have a 1994 Firehawk 350, T-56 Trans, and I currently have 3:42's. Which gears would work out the best for me? I usually do alot of highway driving but I also like to go and cruise, race and an occasional track couple times a year. Which gears would give me a good highway rpm and a better pull than my current set-up? I keep hearing 4:11's but that seems too much for highway driving even though the transmission has two overdrive gears. Will the 3:73's give me a significant difference or is there something between 3:73 and 4:11 so I may have the best of both worlds? thanks for any advice...

Keep what you have thier is nothing wrong with your gears. 4.11=no traction=slower 1/4 times. Save your money and buy a 100hp nitrous kit(3.42 gears work better on nos then 4.11=torque) and have the best of both worlds...just my opinion..

Wont I blow my motor up since it's all stock? I heard some iffy things about juice in a stock 350.

3.73s' will help for a couple of tenths and not kill your gas mileage...

And if its not over 100 HP of Nitrious and not used alot, the stocker can hold up for awhile...

What about a LT4 hotcam setup? Will that help with the 3:42 gears 1/4 mile time and greater pull on highway and off the line?

3.42's are, IMHO, is the best choice for moderation. assuming this is your daily driver, it gives ya enough kick to be noticed, but not to the point where the gas mileage becomes a problem.

then again, i have a biased opinion, since i have 3.42's

I agree that keeping the 3.42's is probably your best bet. You can get away with 3.73's but I think your gain will be very minimal. I went from a 2.73 to a 3.73 and gained alot.

i dont where in gods name you got your info about gears, but apperantly youve never had a set. i have both 3.73s and 4.10. i drop .3 in the 1/4 with 3.73s and then droped .2 more when i went with 4.10s. a total of a half second in the 1/4 for about 300 bucks sounds kindda go to me. and buy the way these times were on a stock car and all on the same tires

4.10s are great for highway. im only runing 1900rpms at 70. and at 145mph i run exactly 4000rpms. so you still have topend. and with a set of drag radials you can get awsome times. and i finish the 1/4 in fourth

im sure you will get more replys but remember to match the gears to what you plan in the future

My car with 3.73's revs at almost 300rpm when I am doing 80 mph in 6th gear. Not calling you a liar but I am finding that hard to believe. What is your final drive??

i forgot the pics are on my laptop ill post them tonight. sorry

i dont understand how you could be turning that many rpms at 70. stock i only ran about 1400 rpms with 3.42s and if you only went to 3.73s you shouldnt be turning that many rpms. i wouldnt think. and i used one of the calculaters at fbody.org (i think) and i was right on the money at 70.

Sorry about that I just thought of something. I was thinking about while I am in 4th gear instead of 6th.

If you are spending money on gears go 4.10's in a M6. Don't both changing to 3.73's inless you broke your 3.42's. Good luck!
