Question which gears to get?????????

hey everybody,
I can't make up my mind about choosing gears. My mods are in my sig. I will also be installing the XE224/230 on 114 LSA cam kit that i got from combination motorsports. I will also be getting my heads ported by Lloyd when i have the $$$$$$. My car will be a daily driver in the summer when it's nice outside. I also do highway driving. Ihear 3:42's are a good all around gears for street, highway & strip. Also gas mileage won't take a big hit compared to 3:73's. But, 3:73's give you that wiplash effect =) Can you guys help me, cause i can't pick. Also, with the mods i have done, and with the cam kit and gears, would this get me in the 12's?????? Thanks for your help.

i do my share of driving on the highway, so 4:10's are out.
It's only between, 3:42's VS. 3:73's
thanks though

I'm asking the same question for my a4. Is the step from 3.23 to 3.43 worth it ? Then again going to the 3.73 makes you first gear act like you have a 4.10 ratio.
Now the traction issue arises

Going from 3.23's to 3.42's is a waste. Definately 3.73's. If you had 2.73's stock then I'd recommend 3.42's because of your highway driving. I've heard people don't even feel a difference between 3.23's and 3.42's also, they regret it almost right away. BTW with your current mods I'm suprized you aren't atleast dipping into the 12's already. Atleast low low 13's. Get those gears and some sticky tires(you'll need em) and you'll be in the 12's easy. After the cam you should be in the mid to low 12's. Have fun.

Oh also getting only 200 miles on a tank is low. I averaged 270-320 with my stock 2.73's. Dunno about the 3.42's yet I haven't had more than a couple chances to find out. With your 3.23's you shouldn't be much lower than my average, if lower at all. Must be you have a heavy right foot.

yea, i might have a heavy foot but goota enjoy the LT1 power
What is a good number, befor you have to refill. I think i might need a tune up, that might be the other reason, that number is low. Wow, 3:73's running away with this poll, looks like i'll be getting 3:73's for my z. What kinda tires you recommend??? I was looking at the BFG KDW. What u think about those?

I also wanted to say thanks, to everybody that has contributed their info. It really helps, when you have others that already have experienced gears, cams, etc. done to their cars. I was really stumped, but i will be getting 3:73 and roll the dice with them, the worst that can happen is go to 3:42's if it kills gas mileage.
THANKS
