gears?

Well, i plan on finally ordering my headers pretty soon, and i figured since im at it i might as well order gears too. I was wondering if the Thunder Racing complete gear package was worth the money.

What gears would be best for Freeway use and street use? Not necessarily a daily driver, but from time to time it could be?

GM motive seem to be the best..you can get the install kit n gears probably cheaper then anywhere else @ jegs, summit, etc.

yea get some genuine gm gears or just the gm motive replacement gears...

and you don't need that bearing kit unless you already broke your gear's and have lil metal shaving's floating in there.. otherwise your stock bearings will be fine to reuse! don't waste anymore money on that POS 10 bolt than you have to

4.10 OEM gears with Ratech solid shims. JMHO

If you go with anything other than the OEM or GM Motive, you might get excessive noise.JMHO

So, i dont really need all the stuff they advertise? i know ill need the oil and stuff, but not the cover or the ratech kit? If there are no shavings in the oil, i should just get the gears, installation kit and oil? What size gears are stock?

whats best for street, and freeway use? I know 4.10's were suggested but any other opinions? 4.10s seem seem to be on the other end of the table from 3.23s.

I bought one of the kits from ThunderRacing and think it's well worth it. Most guys will tell you to go with 3:73s for the A4 and 4:10s for the M6. I purchased a kit with 3:73s and still get about 20 miles to the gallon with a combination of city/highway driving. New bearings and seals are a wise choice and you might want to get a T/A rear girdle w/the stud kit. I know a lot of guys will tell you not to waste a lot of money on the 10 bolt but not everybody can afford a 12 bolt either. You either spend $2200 for the 12 or $500 for the kit. Either choice is a wise investment; it just depends on your financial situation.

I personally think 4.56's is a great choice, there isnt but a few hundered rpm's diff from the 4.10's and 5 mph. Up your shift points to 6500 and run 4.56's. Also i agree with motive

Not all M6s came with 3.42s. 93s with the M28 and M29 gearbox came with 3.23s or 2.73s, respectively.

Here's a calculator you can use to find the ratio that you feel will best suit you.

The Motive 4.10 kit from Thunderracing.com was a good investment for me. I have no problems and felt it was a great performance mod. Reminder that you will spin the **** out of your tires 1st thru 3rd easily. So get some traction to the rear with your upgrade.
