Re: Gear Driven Timing

I wouldn't say not possible and the opti is not the thing that greatly complicates it.

Re: Gear Driven Timing

i always just thought it was because of the knock sensor?
you would just need a vented opti setup like when doing the cloyes true roller timing set

if you can use a cloyes true roller on a vented style opti with minor timing cover clearancing, why cant you run a gear drive for the same '87 up roller block?

Re: Gear Driven Timing

They make a gear set that will work, but ya have to have a distributor with dual sync. One for the plugs and one for the injectors. They make that too.

Re: Gear Driven Timing

Knock sensors and water pump are two problems right odd the top of my head and all you would gain would be an ungodly amount of noise that will only be "cool" for a short time then you will hate it.

why would you need a dual sync dist.?

do you have too have that setup when running a gear drive on say an L98 motor?

EDIT: and there is an option of silent gear drives
EWP solves the WP drive issue, like with the Cloyes true roller

Re: Gear Driven Timing

Didn't say there were not solutions to the issues just pointed out the main things that need addressing.
I have heard a few cars where the owners claimed to have gone with the quiet geardrives and they were still loud to me, then again a whole lot of BS gets thrown around at shows and races. Even if they can be quiet I am not particularly convinced them worthwhile.

Re: Gear Driven Timing

it is kind of 1982 Journey era lol

but i'm just trying too get too the root of why we cant use one when L98 cars can?
if we can use the same true roller timing set like they can, what makes the gear drive so much different
