Gasket removal

Is there any kind of trick or easy way to remove the seal behind the optispark? Im changing the optispark and the seal where it plugs into the cam seems to be leaking so I want to replace it as well. Im having trouble removing the seal and need to know if there is some trick that im missing. I don't have a gasket remover so this may be making the process more difficult...

Well depending on which model year you have, the earlier (93-94s) are easy to replace just pop out the old one with a screwdriver (opti is off of course), clean the surface, install new one and reinstall shaft and opti ,(lube seal surface before).

On the 95 up cars the seal is a little harder to get out but still prys out , (easy ier with some channel locks, just grab twist and pry) its easier with a seal installer but a short 2 by 4 laid accross the seal and a hammer are pretty easy as well.

sorry, forgot to mention its a 95. I was afraid of tearing something up by using channels and muscling it out. If thats what you have to do then I'll pry away I guess.

I checked all around my area (Napa, advanced auto) no one carried one or could even find where to order it. (Most of the people I had talked to at the stores didn't know what an optispark was or any clue of what I was talking about) I ended up getting the gm part number and my local autozone was able to order one that way. I've also seen ONE on ebay for my year vehicle. The GM part number is 12552428 I believe if that helps you. gl

Personally bro I'm just gonna just try to pry it out myself maybe with some pliers. Just gotta make sure you don't gouge anything or put cuts into the metal.

If you fiddle with for awhile, it will come out. If you have a seal puller, that will help. Once the metal part of the seal bends a little, removal is easy.

That is because optispark is a nickname. It's real name is the distributor.
