Gasket removal...

How do I get these things off?! I mean the hard plastic-like ones. Like the ones on the timing cover and the throttle body. I am afraid I am going to goudge the surface of these things. What a pain. Any info will be very appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Gasket removal...

you can gasket remover spray, spray it on, let sit for a few minutes and itll practically fall off by then usually. Sometimes youll need a lil more scraping and more spray but the stuff works great! Just watch the overspray!!! Thats some nasty stuff to be melting gaskets!

Yea get some gasket remover spray. Usually you can spray it on, let it sit for a couple min. and then just wipe/scrape off the gasket. On real stubborn gaskets, you may have to do this process several times before getting all of the material off.

Man, I don't know. I've used the gasket spray on those gaskets you're referring to. Those ones are a b!^@&!!! The spray really didn't soften them up that much. sure as heck didn't just fall off. Still required quite a bit of work. I used the Permatex brand stuff too. You just need an assortment of scrapers. A razor blade scraper and maybe some chisel type scrapers. Of course, be very careful not to gouge the aluminum.

A wire wheel on a grinder has always worked for me.
