gas mileage: guys w/stock motors and 2.73 rear

for a bolt on car it seems to me like i should be getting better gas mileage. basically my current mods are CAI and aerochamber muffler, but for some reason i can barely squeeze 150 miles out of a full tank ! it seems like it gets better mileage in the summer where the SES light doesnt come on as much. but in the colder months the SES light and fans go on and off all day and the car is on E before 150 miles pass on the odometer (i reset it after every fill up). what could possibly be killing my mileage like this, is it runnin rich and dumping more fuel than necessary in there for some reason?, map sensor, O2 sensors, and fuel filter all prolly need to be changed, but could it be somethin related to the SES light? thanx in advance

ps what kinda mileage are you guys gettin, maybe its not just me ?

O2 sensor, clogged fuel or air filters, or a shot cat can all cause a decrease in gas mileage. Its really hard to say without starting with one and seeing what the culprit is. It's good to change those anyway.

With the mods in my sig, I get about 17 mpg running it lightly and 14 mpg when I run it hard. If I were to run the car to empty, I'd get around 250 miles/tank.

Mine's a 95 A4 just like yours (more or less). I make sure to get gas when I hit 200 miles if I am just driving around town (13-15MPG). On the freeway I usually get 24-26 MPG. That is unless I WOT a lot.

I get roughly 18-19 mpg. If your SES light keeps coming on and off consistently like that, you need to get it scanned and find out what is causing the light to come on. Chances are whatever is causing your poor gas mileage is what is setting off the SES light.

I never really check mine because its not my everyday drive but if you are getting a SES light I would guess theres something going on and have it checked out that may be the reason for bag gas mile.

OMG, 200 mpt total? I get 225 around town, about 270 mixed, and 300+ highway only. As said earlier get that thing scanned. Bad O2, clogged cat(s) ( don't remember what year your car is), fuel filter, change the plugs and wires.

Later,

Mike

I get about 215 miles to the tank mixed driving. (filling up 13 or so gallons) I guess thats not to bad. I replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, the only things not replaced or checked out is my cat and the 02's.

i doubt its catalytic convertor related cause i removed the cat. this mornin i put $11 in it and it went halfway btw 1/2 and 3/4 from empty, but after going only 10 miles to school and back home (10 each way), the gage is showing a lil under 1/2! why does my car hate me, i have done nothin but nurture it as if it were a child (sometimes), why must i spend $30+ a week on gas .

Wow, $30 a week on gas, I wish I was you! I get between 14-16mpg. Seeing how the cheapest 92octane gas is around $2.12/gal here in Hawaii, I can easily spend $30 when I fill up. I fill up twice a week at the LEAST!! I need to do the "don't drive the car and save $$" mod.

Back when my car was an A4 w/2.73s i used to get about 340 miles to the tank on road trips (about 24mpg). Staying in town usually net me 240-250 miles to a tank. These were taken after doing CAI, MACs, and the hooker catback. Those 3 mods alone increased my milege 3-4mpg. Stock i used to get about 300-310 mpt on road trips from home to school.

Now with the M6 and 3.73s i get around 360mpt, so there wasn't much difference. In town milege... well... the M6 kinda killed that since it gave me a bad case of the hot foot HTHs
