GAH! My times leave alot to be desired, fellas come in please

96 LT1, 60K on the clock.

My mods are listed below, and I think my huge 18s are hurting me.

My best run is as follows:

60' - 2.29

1/4 - 14.7

mph 92.27

My best mph through the whole night was a 95.22

I'm trying to find the track elevation because its in the vicinity of 3500 ft above sea level.

I watched a couple of other cars, LS1s were hitting low 14s with a one in the very high 13s (they had a few goodies done)

I have no idea how much the elevation effects my time, or if its corrected on my time or what. But what ever came up on the board is what is on the timesheet.

All the hopped up stangs were hitting about mid 14s too. I actually lined up against a ls1 SS and even though I bogged my launch horirbly I caught up to him and he had me by a fraction of a second at the end once the LS1 started to wake up.

Any ideas guys? I don't think I could get her moving much better with my kumhos and 18s, I'm considering getting a nice set of dsrag radials and thinner tire/rim for the front for the next time I go. The times I tried to launch with minimal spin resulted in times that were absolutely horrendous.

I found shooting the throttle jsut over 2k and then letting out on the clutch and then feathering into traction gave me the best times.

Anyways, sorry for the long post

Elevation will kill your MPH, and 18s will kill your ET. Find out what the exact elevation was so you can calculate your corrected time.

You're on the right track looking at times from other cars. There are a lot of times you'll see posted on here that came from a sea level track, in perfect conditions etc. Hell, a lot of LT1s run 8.8s in the 1/8th stock, and with an intake and a catback I was still off that mark by .3. BUT, when I compared my times to other cars that I know how much faster they should be than me, I found my times were right on.

If you're getting mid 14s at a 3500 ft track in the summer, I say you're doing ok.

Track is is listed at 3500ft above.

Is it worth keeping my stocker 16s and throwin some better rubber on em for the rear, and getting a thinner rim/tire for the front?

hey man i don't see how 18's will hurt you as long as the wheel dia. is the same i believe the the stock dia. is 26inches. so if your 18's with low profile tires equal 26inch dia. it should'nt matt

i have a 96 lt1 m6 stock i was running 13.90 to 14.00

with power pulleys, edelbrock shorties, lt4 knock mod, and borla
adj. cat back now i'm runnig 13.70 to 13.20 depending on traction

but i live in ohio climate might be closer to sea level.

good luck

The thing about the 18" wheels isn't the height, its the weight. I was surpised to get good times when I ran stock on my 17" wheels though. Guess they aren't too heavy after all. I was really pleased. They never slowed down my 6 banger when I use to have them on it either. Times were always right on with it too.

The problem with 18's isn't only weight...but no sidewall=traction problems and that means lower e/t.

yea i can see where sidewalls would be so small that you would burn the tires off trying to take off. i have stock rims and i blow the tires off. and the one time i got traction i broke the clutch.
replace it with a star spec 3 no ploblems now.

The larger the sidewall the more it flexes and flattens out when you try to launch. Same principle as lowering the tire pressure to give more contact area and flex.

Your posting your times and your disappointment is the exact reason you should never pay mind to what other people on the internet have run.

You have many variables. You will see those who are honest(more than others) will let you know such things as the weather, elevation, DA, track prep, anything removed from car, etc...

Others will just say, I ran XX time being bone stock...but then you find out racing at sea level, -1500 DA, passenger seat removed, etc....and you start realizing, stock means different to everyone.

Your car I think is running good.

The guy above is right. But putting DR's on and throwing skinnies up front isn't a bad thing. If you run at the track, it does nothing but help. Traction is definitely an issue. I run MT ET streets w/skinnies up front. I have an A4 so my stall really helps my 60 ft. Your 60 ft could be better and I think it will get better with traction. Good luck bro and keep us posted.

So do you guys run the stock rims on your cars at the track? I got ZR-1's with 315's on the back. I still have my stock rims. What does everyone run on their cars at the track? Rim and tire wise.
