Gah! Can i bust into the 12's?

Well, my goal with everything was a mid/high 12 second daily driver. After going to the track and allmost crying when i didnt get my 12 second timeslip, im thinking this should be a good year. With all mods in sig, some dr's, a new ram hd clutch, sfc and phb with a decent 1.8 60' .. you guys think i can get into the 12's? Also, my car has a cheapo Summit Catco cat on it. I will be hacking it off after i pass e-check. Im hopeing that will make a difference alone. Thanks for any imput.

Oh.. i just replaced the opti\plugs\wires\waterpump. My old opti was held together by RTV .. i kinda snapped afew of the cap torx's off.

I went from 2.3 to 1.8 60 ft with MT drag radials and no suspension mods. From 14.6 to 13.7 in the 1/4. I would probably do gears before suspension mods. I gained .5 second by going to 3.73. I'd say slap some 4.10s in that bad boy.

Its really amazing how much tires do at the track. I think you will be in the high12's maybe better.

Hah, i was going to get some spray but the opti thing sent me back around 500$. I guess it is more important to have the call fully tuned up before putting more money into the motor.

I have the Nitto Drag Radials and I ran 13.1 at 109 with a 2.1 sixty foot. I know they could of hooked better and got a 1.9 sixty foot but wheelhop was insane. So with similar mods to you, i'm lcas and relocation brackets away from 12s. So good tires are a great thing at the track.

Re: Gah! Can i bust into the 12's?

I have problems with traction same as you, they don't prep the track very well (or at all sometimes) where I race. The 2.4 60' time is awful and I think if you can drop it down to a 2.0 at least (or better) then you will have a low low 13 second slip maybe even a high 12. You went in the right direction with those suspension mods and sticky tires and new clutch, that should help you a great deal. Good luck hope you hit that 12.XXX. I'm hoping to do the same myself this year that's why I picked up the MT ET Drags last summer.

not trying to hijack thread but, i think everyone that dont know could learn a thing or 2 about this, lol.

u say u dropped .5 seconds by going to 3.73, what gears did u have b4? and was that THE ONLY mod u did between track days? what ur 60 ft differences in those runs as well?
TIA

I went from 3.23s to 3.73s and yes 60 ft was about .2 better but I would say do to the gear change. I have only been drag racing for 6 years. I have all my slips databased now with mods and temp and RH. Every run is datalogged and videoed. I only make it to the strip 20 times a year. But I think it is a better hobby the hunting. At least faster.

Re: Gah! Can i bust into the 12's?

Yes he's got a tune for the cam and such, I was there for that one!

Although the 3.23's are much better than your 2.73's from your previous track visit, they arent going to be perfect for your setup since the T56 loves 3.73's and 4.10's. Definately going to help alot over 2.73's though. If you can get 3.73's or 4.10's down the road go for it, but its going to cost more buck than what swapping rears did.

I think you were running street tires last time, pulling the same 2.4 60's I did when I went to the track. If you go to DR's, those plus the better gearing are going to get you outta the hole a helluva lot faster. DR's are going to be your best investment for the track to get that 60' down into the sub 2.0's.

Here is my concern, your probably going to need a better trap speed to get into the 12's since you dont really have the gearing or weight loss to get there otherwise. Even though your 60' will improve with the gears, suspension, and DR's, its not going to be enough to get you into the 12's. Basically your going to have to unlock some of the HP and TQ still in your engine.

For example, since you are running 1.5 stock rockers I'd recommend going to some 1.6 rockers and getting some springs to match. 612's should be fine. Not only is that worth some major ponies, its also going to stiffen up the valvetrain making it more efficient. I'd estimate 10-15rwhp from those. One mod that I loved was an E-WP, CSR to be exact. Low cost $170 from Summit and provides around 10rwhp/10rwtq. Longtubes wouldnt be a bad idea if the budget allows, but dropping the cat should be worth something.

Most CC305 guys with the right bolt on's are trapping in the 109-112 mph area, which should definately yeild some 12's. I say a few more mods to support that cam and you'll be sitting pretty in the 12 second club. I actually might be able to help get you a few mods, so let me know if your interested.

Also I am trying to get a bunch of F-body film this season. SPD2MCH just bought a stock LS1 A4 and we're probably going to do some racing. PM me your number so I can let you know when we are planning on doing this. Should be some good fun races since we are all pretty close to each other power wise.

Re: Gah! Can i bust into the 12's?

You should be able to hit an upper 12 with that MPH - get the car to hook, which will basically require driving practice at the track (seat time). I was running high 12's with that mph.

Gears would do you well - pm me before you buy, I might be able to get you a better deal on them. Also, I have 2 local shops that I highly recommend so...

You should hit it this year - good track prep and if the car hooks you're there.

Re: Gah! Can i bust into the 12's?

Do you have 1.6 roller rockers? If you do that puts your lift over what the LT4 springs can handle. If i am not mistaken the 1.6rrs will put the cc05 at .544, and the LT4 springs are only good to .525.

just chcking tho.
