Funny sound when shifting

I notice this sound only happens when im on the highway. Ill be cruising at around 50 and when I smash the pedal down (A4), the car shifts, when it shifts you hear like this shrieking, screeching sound from the engine. Took it to the mechanic, he put on a new belt. He said the belt I had on before was too big. But I still have the problem. Any ideas?

I love it!!, I really love when mechanics are so set that they know what the problem is they dont bother to check out other possibilities. And then make you pay for somthing you probobly didnt need.

Is this an automatic or manual tranny?

Its an automatic-

couple months ago I was drivin on the highway, see this 89 5.0 mustang pull up next to me, and we both push it at the same time...so as my car shifts its makes that noise..needless to say i beat the mustang, but then we pulled over and started talking he wanted to know if the car was blown! I said what do u mean? he said he heard this loud shrieking noise...I started laughing nope its just this noise problem I have and I cant figure it out. It felt good to feel like I had a supercharger for couple of seconds..ahhh maybe one day.....but what could this noise be?!?!?!

Its your serpentine belt slipping from the torque of the motor when the car shifts. So your mechanic was right, but even new belts do it.

So youre sayin the belt is making the noise and that new belts do it also. So its not a problem? Nothing to worry about?

I wouldnt worry about it at all. If it really bugs you you can maybe try putting a new belt tensioner on and that might help, but its not hurting anything though.

My car does that going into 3rd almost every time. Sometimes in 2nd as well. First time it happened I though it was my tires chirping. I can only wish.
