Fuel Pressure!?!
Fuel Pressure!?!
Now with the other problem out the way... I have time to play around with the other problems on the car...
So I go buy a Fuel pressure test kit to figure out the fueling issue.
I test it and get the following results...
When the engine is off and I turn the key The Fuel Pressure Guage reads 38psi ... When I turn the engine on the car drops down to 32 psi ...
According to my el cheapo manual it should be 41-47PSi ... with the car off... then drop 3 marks below that when the engine is on...
Something is wrong?

Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
The fuel pump hungh...
SO I can rule out the regulator?
I pushed down on the Throttle and the highest it got was 40psi or so...

Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
The way I have always checked it is hook up the guage and let the car idle.Pressure should be 32-34PSI.Then take off the vacuum line and it should go up to 38-42PSI and come back down when the line is plugged back in.All of this is done at idle.
Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
IT was a $36.99 kit I picked up from Autozone... and for the price returned shortly after...
It's a universal guage but a pain in the *** to put on and take off becuase the location of the guage... and the fact that hte LT is hot as hell! (Burn marks on arm to prove this.

I checked it by attaching the guage... then bleeding the Fuel pressure off...then starting the car... and that's how I got my results... I did this 3 times with the same results...

Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
Really what you need to do is pull off the vac line while running. And note what the fuel presure goes up to. And put it back on and take you car down the road at wot it should go back to where it was when you pulled the vac line off if not you need a fuel pump. Some times it can be hard to tell if you dont have a liquid filled gauge. Any way good luck.

Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
hmm this is kind of confusing...
I was going by the instructions in the Haynes manual...
But when you say vacumm line what do you mean...???
On the Guage there's the Line going to the Shrader valve... and a pressure bleed off line.

Re: Fuel Pressure!?!
Okay... I gotcha now...
I was about to say... it's like 300 degress back there...
Is it super important to try getting results that way, or is that just an old method of finding out forsure? Is the Haynes way a bad method?
