fuel gauge sending unit

Ok I know this should not be in this area but I'am not sure where, 96 z28 with fuel gauge inop. the sending unit is bad, my book saids the unit can be changed, chevy saids that I have to replace the whole fuel pump unit, they will not sell sending unit separate, that's around $400.00 bucks from chevy, but I don't need a pump, any body know if the sending unit can be bought, if so where. I would like to get new, if possible. found the whole unit from rockauto.com for about 280.00

Re: fuel gauge sending unit

As far as I know, the 96-97 was a one piece module that came as a unit. 93-95 were seperate. Gyrhead.com sells a GM one for $243. http://www.gyrhead.com/Catalog/Searc...sFlag=3&Page=4

Re: fuel gauge sending unit

Chcek your wiring. Is your gauge showing full or empty? It will probably show as full when you have an open in the wiring (or sending unit). If the gauge is dead in the middle, it might be dashboard gauge problem. If it shows empty, it's probably the sending unit (fuel pump assy).
