Front end feels loose

When driving over the local roads, which are definetly less than stellar in terms of condition, my front end feels very loose. I definetly need to replace the shocks and springs, but my major concern is that the front end seems to track in all different directions.

I only have 245's on the front, so it isn't due to extremely wide tires.

What should I target to remedy this?

Mine does the same thing and I replaced my Shocks all the way around and it still did it. Everyone told me it was due to the wide tires but I still disagree. I thought tie rod ends or ball joints as well but no one will confirm this. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, just an agreement and TTT,

Someone on here a while back suggested that this condition may be caused by poor weld's around where the A arm bolts to the frame under the engine bay. Mine used to do this too but I recently bought new rims/tires and it hasn't done it since.

I definetly need an alignment, so we'll see what happens after that.

usually when you get an alignment they will tell you if something is worn and needs replacing. My car does the same on roads with ruts in the cement, it's just because the tires are so wide. I recently had my front end aligned too.

The preload rack spring can also affect this. The looser it is, the more darting you'll have. I thought my rack was basically trashed until I loosened the lock ring, tightened the nut up until it got snug, backed off about 1/8 turn then locked down the ring. Now it's a lot tighter and doesn't dart nearly as bad.

True though... tires, the way the tires are wearing, psi, alignment and loose parts in general will all add to it.
