Found out why I have no oil pressure! Pics
You guys have this problem much? I would've thought it would snap the shaft off before this. What do you guys think? Also, the motor only has about 6,000 miles on it, and the #8 piston is the only one showing signs of wear. Any ideas

Do I need to replace the 90 degree gear on the new drive assembly to work with the Comp cam (without excessive wear), and if so what gear should I use (MFG & PN)?
I'm also using the Moroso high-volume oil pump.

The type of pump won't effect ya much.
Call the cam manufacturer to get the right type of gear. A bronze gear on the street is a high wear item.
Comp now has a plastic type gear(space age material),but don't know anything about it but what I have read.

I had a similar thing happen with my stock engine right after I got my 95' at 58k on the odometer, lost the #8 rod. Was on the highway with the cruise control on one night making a trip from Louisville,KY to Idaho and I made it to about Evansville,IN when the stock powdered rod on #8 snap'd right off in two places.
Bent the intake push rod and what was left of the rod on the crank put a hole in my oil pan in the same place on each side. Got lucky man, didn't hurt my head or my block.. Dropped the cash on a forged bottom end after that happend and bored it .030" over. That was about 3 years ago and she's still running strong.

use a bronze gear for a billet cam!!!!!!. i have the comp cams bronze gear drive for my oil pump. it's great. it didn't fit excactly, but luckily i was able to bore out the gear and place a bronze sleeve in it to make up for the extra slack it had when original. not everybody has the capability to make a broze sleeve, but it works like a dream if you do.

There are several Company's that make a specific Billet core and or with a Cast iron gear to solve this issue.
Really is that easy I only order one of those two

wow thanks for all the quick replies. I have a GM LT4 hotcam (.525 lift/112 lsa) and I believe that drive gear was the original. Shouldn't the two work together? Also, I had a melling High volume oil pump.

I would expect the Hotcam to be compatible. I would say it is due to the HV pump (especially if you are using a thick oil). Seen it many times posted on this very board. The extra effort it takes to turn the HV pump causes extreme wear on some (doesn't seem to be all) gears.

I called the Comp Cams tech line today, the guy I talked with said, "use the stock (OEM) gear with their XFI series cams." Does everyone agree with his advice? Or, are there better oil pump drive gear options available for the XFI cam that you would recommend? The guy I spoke with at Comp didn't appear too knowledgeable on LT specific engine questions.
Also, I'm using the Moroso high-volume oil pump. Any input on that specific Moroso pump causing a heavy load (more than normal) on the gear drive?
