Found out I have Hypertech chip..

Well when I first bought my car, the previous owner said there was a performance chip already installed.

After looking closely at my exhaust videos it seems my car is running rich, black sut on the inside of the tailpipes... so I decided to look at the chip... I just found out today that it is the dreaded hypercrap chip.

If I stepped up to madz28 or pcmforless, what would I see for improvment?

Mods since I got the car have been LT Headers & ypipe, 1.6 RR and Moroso CAI.

I believe you would see an improvment, expecially in the A/F. I understand the initial tuning cost x amount and you get a discount on upgrading the tuning as you need it. Check it out.

If the Hypercrap chip is as good as the programer for later models, I would have to say that the mail order tune is vastly surperior.JMHO

I doubt the car is running rich from the chip, there may be a seperate issue there. But if you went with a tune from one of the mail-order tuners, you should definitely see a power improvement over the Hypertech chip.

I can help you here.I ordered the mad z28 chip. had my computer out and duh?I had the dreaded hypercrap!put in the mad z28 chip. big *** difference. better idle, throttle response, pulls harder in any rpm range. of course I put in a 160 degreee thermostat and run 93 octane on a power tune.mine was 132 bucks shipped. he says you pick up 13 rwhp,I believe it!
