Found a new car today.. Advice

Its a dark Blue 1995 firebird, the car has all options and is a 6spd v8 car, its not a trans am but it's a fire hawk i assume? Its going for 7000 obo which bothers me b/c it has 135000mi, my last car was a 1996 6spd camaro and it had 64000 and i want it to run well without many problems, how high of a risk do you think a car with that many miles are and what do you think of the price? thanks guys

Its most likely a firebird formula. And as far the price you're getting stroked! There are many more f-bodies out there with less miles for cheaper! And with 135k you'b better watch out thats probably alot of beat miles on that poor f-body!

For $7K, it's definitly not a Firehawk..... if it is, let me know

I would hold out for a better deal, personally. For $7000, you can get a car with closer to 90-100k miles.

Well, the area i am in is really crappy to get these cars, because the people who have them beat them and sell them or have really nice fbody and wont sell them, the thing is im 17, and the last time i bought a newer fbody we drove to Jersey, i live in pa, and we got screwed over. If you guys know anywhere i can look for camaro's please let me know, im outside of northwest Philly

Don't limit yourself to the East Coast. Do some serious looking aruound. If you find the right car at the right price outside the Salt Belt, get all the info on the car including VIN, repair records, etc. hop on a red eye and pick it up.

If you don't want to drive it back, rent a pick-up through U-Haul and tow it back.

OR...pay the seller's return flight and have him/her deliver it, if it is a good car at a good price. It's a small world. JMHO

And...if this car is really what you want and it is in "good" shape, i.e., no crashes, no salt damage, no obvious motor, drive train, AC problems, then go for it.

But pay only what it is actually worth, given the fact that you are going to have to definitely put some bucks into it.

And...if you don't want to pay that much for the car, but the owner is holding out, offer him some crap in trade along with the cash. Its a good way to get something for your unwanted stuff and sometimes will seal the deal.JMHO

Thats definatly a little high for the mileage. Then again i have seen Irocs with almost 200,000 on them running like like new and 2000 Z-28s with under 30,000 miles on them that are shot. It really depends on how the car was taken care of and driven.

Ya, that price is a little steep... FYI yesterday I posted an ebay link, a friend of mine is selling his 1995 Formula A4, and it has only 71,000 miles, loaded etc. Its black in color, and it has a buy it now of 5250, with a reserve much lower than that.....

Damn that sounds like a good deal. Plus it has the vented opti and OBD1.

it really all depends on what you get with it...I paid $11,500 for my 95 T/A M6. Now before everyone tells me I got raped, this was with 51,000 miles, a 2 year extended warranty, a 30 day unlimited warranty, and the car had been inspected and certified to my satisfaction. Car is almost perfect except the front end needs a clay bar job, the drivers side window motor went out (replaced for free), and I know if I bust the rear end/tranny or the opti craps out, I can get it replaced for $25 (my warranty copay)

Bone stock I could rev/dump it in 3rd and go sideways...I was happy

well, just to give you an idea, i just got my z28 with an auto from a dealer and payed 6500. The nice thing about it is that it has only 44k on it. It has the premium sound and 3.23 gears. And it is in really great shape. My experience has been that after about 120,000 miles, cars slowly start to fall apart. Not all, but alot do.

I got my car with 91,000 miles a month ago for $6,300 TTL included. No heat, minor scratches, and needs tires. Runs great. You'll find something for less than 100,000 miles easy.

I bought a '95 Formula M6 with 120k miles for $6250 bout a yr. ago. Bone stock and one owner. Very well maintained and it still shows it at 145k. Everybody says these car start to fall apart at 120k and IMO it's b/c most ppl that have owned one have ragged the dog **** out of it and ppl wonder why they start to fall apart at 100k +.

I have only put a clutch, battery and now a power steering pump after 25k miles and have added a few boltons. I've been very happy with my car.
