Fouled Plugs And Spun Bearing!
Fouled Plugs And Spun Bearing!
Well heres the scoop, I was fighting a vibration problem forever. During my attempts to fix it my oil pump pickup tube fell off, and then several miles later the actual oil pump broke. I put in a new oil pump only to find out I had a horrific knocking sound. The car had no top end power and would barely idle. It was running extremely bad. I starting pulling the motor and found everyone of my NGK iriduim's to be fouled. I tear into it and found 2 spun main bearings and one spun rod bearing. My question is, Would the knock sensor pick this noise up and make it run extremely bad and very slow with a bad idle. Or is my opti going south. I tried repladcing the opti when it was running and it was the vibe so i took the opti back and i knew the old one was still good. So whats everyones experience and opinion on this. Will spun bearing make a car run extremely bad or should i replace the opti while im there. A budget is somewhat of a problem too. Thanks
How bad were those bearings (post pics), if they were realy bad Id look into having the crank turned or at least looked at if you arent doing that already. Next the knock sensor should pick it up if it is working properly and most likely max retard the timing, which could possibly foul the plugs since it wont be burning the whole mixture. Id put it back together with the same opti, wont hurt anything except maybe another set of plugs, see how she runs and go from there.
Or if you were like me or any other broken internal guy, just build a stroker!!

Its funny how opti brain washed every one is!!!!
I think you should be looking into a new or rebuilt motor!!!!
With your engine on the verge of sezing you might be low on power!!!
I would have to say this is the funiest post ever lol

Everyone misunderstood my point, I have it torn apart and it is at the machine shop being rebuilt, Since it is my daily driver i do not have the time or the cash for a stroker motor, I am getting a new crank and the block check out fine, I just dont want to spend all this time and still have problems, I want it to go back together and be fine, And plus I am ordering all my parts tommorow and was wondering if it would be wise or not to get an opti with them since Summit now has GM opti's. Just getting some opinions if rod knock would cause foul plugs.
Since you're on a budget I would re-use your opti. If not order it from Jason Cromer. It's a much better deal than Summit.
What crank did you go with and what other parts are you ordering? If you get them thru the engine shop remember their time is worth something and they will try to make a buck too.
You might be able to order the parts yourself and save some money. The Summit rebuild kit seems like a good price to me
