Foul smelling spark plugs

Hello all. I recently had the Opti, plugs and wires changed. My mechanic asked me if I use the 87 octane gas . I said I run either Shelll or Sunoco. He told me my spark plugs smelled " really funny" He did say that they were original spark plugs that weren't chnaged in a long time.

My question is the funny smell just from the age of the plugs? or is there another issue? Thanks

You didn't state what octane gas you are running. Both Shell and Sunoco sell multiple octane levels. Tou should be running at least 91.

Both gasolines are 93 in my area. I just got the car back today and I'm baffled. It had a stumble and miss below 2,000 RPM.Had a Opti installed, same then got new plugs and wires. It is now nto quite as bad, but there is a slight stumble, all below 2,000 RPM's once again. Also in sixth gear, once you accelerate it shakes, stumbles and the engine feels like it is gonna shake itself apart in front of me. Have to downshift to 5th on all hills as well. Any help would be appreciated.
