forged crank or not?
forged crank or not?
Ok, here's my deal. I'm either going to get the Eagle Street Stroker kit, or the Eagle Competition Stroker kit. The Street package doesn't have a forged crank, but is $500 less than the Competition package. I'm doing a stroker kit, AFR 190cc heads, and a cam, shooting for between 450 and 500 hp. The guy assured me that for my power needs, the Street package would be sufficient. I am going NA, with no power adders, and I want it to last a while. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks.
Back in 77' I had a Vega bracket car... 355 chevy small block, 5.7" pink rods, 292 heads, solid cam, 2-bolt mains w/studs, and a cast crank. Use to run high tens with that thing spinning to 7200. I ran that engine every weekend for 2 seasons like that before doing a refresh on it. I've ran quite a few other cast iron cranked small blocks on this level (budget bracket). They'll take alot more abuse than most people will give credit. For your proposed power limit... it'll do the trick just fine as long as the machine work is there. Good machine work will make or break a crank... pun intended!

Only thing I would suggest is seeing how much you machine shop will charge you to do standard 4 bolt caps on the 3 center mains. Mine is only charging $200 to line hone and do the 4bolt caps....and that includes the caps ( I allready had the studs) The line hone alone would have been $150. Anyway that crank should work for you....Im using the Eagle forged crank, but I also am going to spray at least a 150 shot.....well worth the $400 extra dollars for my app.
