flywheel: how to remove the counterweights

Any body have a pic of the flywheel showing how to remove the stock flywheel counterweight? I just got my short block from the builder, its internally balanced and I have to zero balance my flywheel.I've read somewhere that the counterweight simply unbolts. I e-mailed SPEC and they said the same thing. I didn't notice the bolts holding the counterweight, it seams like it was part of the flywheel casting.

The flywheel still needs to be checked/balanced by a shop. I would leave it to them.

I did order a new Mcleod street twin- 0 balanced flywheel- so till I get it I wanted is to try removing the counterwieght myself and see if the Vibration will go away. Thare is no machine shope that could do balancing where I live.

Been a couple years since I handled a stock LT1 flywheel but I think the weight is maybe tacked on rather than bolted.

It has to be milled off until it is @ 0. It is cast into it.

We are talking about a stock flywheel right?

The factory manual states that if replacing the flywheel, the weights must be transferred to the new flywheel in the exact same positions as the old ones. From what I recall, the weights simply press in(interference fit)....use a punch to knock them out. I think I have a picture some where.....I'll look around.

This from when we replaced my clutch and flywheel from a few years back. Use the crank pin on the flywheel as a reference as to where to put them. My weights were all 0.5" and 1.0"(as noted on the picture).

I think the flywheel is zero balanced from GM and the weights are to balance the crank(externally balanced)....there are also weights punched into the harmonic balancer too.

Edit: I am wrong in the above paragraph....the flywheel is not zero balanced there is massive weight cast in on the back side of the flywheel(along with press in weights in holes around the outside of the flywheel)

Vibration

Ok, I removed the starter, rotated the engine. There is no counterweights fitted. Now I'm thinking that my vibration problem is not from the flywheel, could it be the pressure plate? I couldnt find any mark on it when I installed it- its spec stg3- years ago I installed a centerforce clutch kit and the pressure plate had a yellow dot that should match with the white ''X'' mark on the flywheel. should be the same for spec pressure plate?

I'm not sure on the dots.....I don't recall it being mentioned in the manual. I do have a vibration myself....at around 4000 rpms I get a vibration and it goes all the way to the redline.

Now, I did install poly engine mounts...so my problem may be related to those not isolating the vibration like the stockers would.

I will go look to see if I can find anything on it.
