Fluke Water Pump Death

Well my stock pump finally took a dump, and was leaking outta the weep hole...so i got a Re-man'd pump that had a "performance bearing" i was told...looked like it was rebuilt very well...everything was very clean, and fit nicely...got it all back together today, let it warm up...i was very pleased since with the new 160 thermostat she was running super cool....well luck will have it, soon as i got way the **** out in the country i decided to do a WOT pull through second and into 3rd...somehwere around 90-100mph i heard a pop and saw a lil splash of coolant hit my windshield...i braked hard, pulled over, and turned off the motor...popped the hood, and found that the freakin' bottom right metal elbow had blown outta the pump case, and was just dangling...since i was way the ffuucckk out in the boonies, i pressed the elbow back into the water pump as far as i could by hand...luckily i had water jugs with me, and there was running water near where i pulled off...so i filled it up, bled the system again...and limped home....1st question: is this a fluke, or could some sorta pressure spike cause that to blow out? 2nd, what pump should i buy to replace?...i don't want anymore problems......Thanks,

The first time I heard of that happening was just the other day. Not sure it was on this board, though. It was a reman pump, also. Bummer.

Get an oem unit from Dal or gmpartsdirect.com. If you don't want to switch to an electrical unit. If you worry about that happening again, have someone put a tack weld on the pipes. Don't think your pressure changed too dramatically when it happened, seems some idiot at the factory just didn't push it in like they should have.
