Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
I think my flowmaster catback is drowning out my cam lope. It's really deep, but I can barely hear my cam chopping back there even with a "choppy" tune by pcmforless. Anyone have similar issues, or is it just me?
I was wanting to upgrade LT going through and an H-pipe, no cats and 2 1-chamber flowmaster race mufflers. But if it's just gonna keep droning out the cam, I might go with something else.

Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
I have the LT's with a cutout before the Hooker catback and my cam lobes really good
but then again I have a CC306.. And if I remember right my LT4 Hotcam didn't have much of a lobe even with LT's it was just really loud

Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
i think you have posted about this before. the hot cam does not lope as much as a lot of cams, its very mild in that respect. If you get a cut out you will hear it a lot more. I have flowmaster and i dont get much lope either. Lookin into the cut out a lot cheaper than going with a new cat back (although the hooker cat back is lookin nice for the price).

Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
CUTOUT.
That will solve your "lack" of lope problems.
And when you want the car to be quieter, just cap it to run back through the Flowmaster for the best of both worlds...
Mike
P.S. Are you running a cat or an offroad pipe? The cat will kill a lot of the lope (you hear it much better through the ORP) FYI...

Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
When I did my cam I couldn't hear any lope at all, just sounded louder. After a good tune from Ion I heard a it a bit, but after I ripped the cats out it made a world of difference. You can definately hear my baby cam now and thorugh the cutout its unmistakeble.
Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
Well I had the american thunder exhaust put on my car a while back and I doubt they used the stock cat for being that the american thunder is 3" back to the muffler. I believe the stock cat is 2.5"? Well i wasn't charged to a new cat so I'm wondering if they just threw on a gutted one laying around the exhaust shop or what. I thought about cutting it off to see, but I'm afriad that if it isn't gutted, my car is going to be way to loud if I do gut it.

Re: Flowmaster drowning out cam lope?
even if the cat isnt 3" diameter (which i think it is) an exhaust shop can expand pipes to fit over larger diameter pipes. Also i doubt that a shop would give you a "gutted" cat for no reason and NOT charge you for it. No shop is that generous. And if they did put one on for you, it wouldnt be a gutted one.
