Flow Numbers ?

Just wandering what you all think about my heads? I just picked them up from the machine shop after having the valve job done and valves, locks, springs, retainers installed. Friend of mine ported them. He charged 350 for the port work. After all said and done I have 900.00 in these heads. Just wandering if you guys think for the money I came out ok.

------IN-----EX
100 075.11 046.08
200 129.01 099.84
300 180.23 137.28
400 226.03 147.02
500 258.60 171.60
600 269.04 189.20

I am looking for atleast 400 hp to the rear wheels out of my 383 stroker im building. I have a eagle 4340 forged crank, block zero decked. eagle h beam rods, weisco forged pistons. should be somewhere around 11.2:1 compression. I want the 400 hp n/a. Let me know if you see any problems with obtaining that. Im gonna run a 150-200 shot on top of this. Let me know if you for see any problems with the heads and this set-up.

P.S. this is with 2.00 and 1.57 valves in the heads

Thanks,
Mike

those numbers look decent, but keep in mind all flow benchs / methods flowing are different and that affects #.

as compared to my heads from lloyd E.
they are very close # wise.

here is a set of # from lloyd's heads.
(these arent mine)

.100 66/47
.200 138/101
.300 195/143
.400 242/172
.500 266/187
.550 274/191
.600 277/194

let us know how they perform, remember flow # arent everything.
i paid $1000 assembled, so i think you got a good deal. congrats

Thanks QCKZ28.

We compared them to my friends IRS heads and they are very close. He made 400 RWHP with the same setup im running on his 383. If I can get that I will be happy.

Any one else? Im gonna put this motor together starting this week. I need to know if I should proceed.

Thanks,
Mike

Yea those number's are decent, but you say your buddy ported them for you...and charged you $350? I think I would have entertained Lloyd's work for $50 more and enjoy some higher intake/exhaust #'s...but maybe that's just me...

i believe lloyd price is a little more than $400 these days....
for a "full" port job, anything.

Yes I wasnt aware of Lloyd when I had these heads ported. I actually had them ported about 6 months ago. I just dropped them off like 2 weeks ago to get the valve job done and put together. Do you think it would be worth it to have the porter blend them after having the valve job done?

I am looking to run these numbers.

My friend Glenn (Ruffidlnz) run these numbers with the same exact setup. actually block, pistons and rods came from the motor that im gonna post the times with. I am running a eagle 4340 where he ran an eagle 9000. and these heads are the only difference between the 2. Him running the IRs heads. My peak numbers are higher. mid lift is about the same. I can get them for you if interested. I just want everything to be right. Been almost 2 years saving for this motor. Wife and 3 kids take much of my fundage .

Thanks,
Mike

p.s. Here's the numbers taken from his sig.

11.69 @ 120 N/A
10.66 @ 132 N2O

This is my best friend since high school. I have witnessed this run. and have went down the track in one of those 10 sec. passes.

Im hooked.

Nope, he charges $400 for porting and $200 for a valve job, surface, seals, cleaning and assembly. I was assuming that he just got a porting job for $350...if not then my mistake...

Yea that is correct it was 350 for the port job. I had every bit of confidence in him. Is why i chose him. He has a mustang running in the 5's in the 1/8th and he does heads for LS1 motorsports. Rob Raymer (owner) has had several heads ported by him and was well pleased. So i gave him a shot. 70 dollars of that was flow testing at a different location so I could compare them to the same flow bench my friend had his heads flowed on. Glenn (ruffidlnz) had more in his car. He never actually tuned it anymore after his mail order tune. I got lt1 edit to try and do some fine tuning.

Thanks again for all you guys help,
Mike

P.s. You can tell by my sig that im sure it will be much faster than what I am use to. But I wanna atleast run what he ran.

Thanks,
Mike

There's and article in GM high tech magazine. If ya look at the 5th paragraph. It mentions Chuck. Thats who done the heads for me. As you can see from the article he knows what he is doing. This is why I ask if I should bolt these on or not. I will start over on the heads if it looks like these arent gonna do what I want and sell these. Please guys any help would be appreciated I dont wanna be disapointed. Also I was wrong on the compression. Figured it up and should be about 12.7:1. Thats what Glenn told me.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. Chuck is who does Rob Raymers heads and in his stable are many fast cars. I can handle constructive critcism.

those numbers are decent & like always flow numbers don't mean everything, but those numbers are low. To make 400+RWHP I ussually find you need 135cfm @.200 lift & 195+cfm at .300 lift, I would atleast have the machine shop put a nice back cut on the valves, judging by the low mid lift numbers I think the machine shop didn't put a back cut on the valves, be aware, when you do put a back cut you'll sacrifice your peak numbers & looking at those heads your peak will be somewhere in the 255 range but thats not important because if you look up a guy with username GREASE on this board he flows 140cfm @.200 & 196cfm @.300 & 255cfm @.600 but he makes 405RWHP with GM847 & those heads, thats why I recommend you get a back cut on the valves.

Matt.
