Question Flashing SES

Since my tb install I have noticed on a few occasions while at cruising speeds my ses will flash. I haven't caught how many times it flashes neither have I noticed any drivability issues during this occurrence. I don't think its misfiring because its still running smooth, accelerates fine ect. Does anyone have a idea of what the problem could be?

Re: Flashing SES

It says in your sig. that you have autotap, have you tried to scan it yet? It could just be coincidental that this problem is occuring and might not be related at all to the recent TB install.

No. The light doesnt set it just flashes about 10 times and goes away. And it seems to only do it when going abt 50 mph and letting off the gas and slowing down, but not always. I am going to try to catch it and look at cylinder misfires but it happens so fast I dont think its possible.

Has anyone had or seen this before? As before there are NO drivability issues but I am sure its doing it for some reason If it would just set a code I could figure it out

Re: Flashing SES

It sure sounds like missfire detection. I'm not sure if there's anything else that would make the SES flash like that.

Re: Flashing SES

I believe with autotap you can look at history misfires and find out what cylinder is missing(I know the Tech 2 can).

Here is my problem w/Autotap. Ever since my cam went in I always pick up misfire activity, Autotap says this is normal on stock cars but considering my cam its a bit more hairy.

Do you guys think it would be safe to say as long as it doesn't set the SES it would be fine? I'm thinking its getting enough activity to flash it but doesn't meet the requirments to set the light. Also I think its picking up vibration, because when I let off the throttle @ 50 mph with the 3.73 gear the exhaust is pretty rough. I have put it in OD when at higher speeds and haven't seen the light.

Re: Flashing SES

Just have the misfire code disabled or modified so that it doesn't trigger. Random misfire is common on OBD2s after cam install, especially LT1.

Thankyou That was the answer I was looking & hoping for. There was no other indications that it was missing so thats what I was thinking.

How much would you charge to tweak it?

Are you a previous customer?
Something like that should only be $30 + shipping even if you aren't a past customer.

Update on prev condition
50mph in regular D and let off the gas (flash flash ect). I was thinking cam,3.73 gear, headers ect ect it vibrates a little so I was assuming it was picking up false knock. But now I have a new twist..

Current condition
As you can see I have sat on this issue for a bit to see what would happen. Result= now its winter here and its been below 30deg ever since the cold weather hit it hasn't done it again I have simulated the exact conditions every time except the ambiant temp. Temp sensor

Re: Flashing SES

All I can say is this. I installed a 58mm BBK tb in which I did not notch the TPS sensor, I went about 1 day before getting the flashing SES, on and off and then going away, and then coming back. The my tranny was shifting hard, or hitting stall wall (on a 2000 rpm stall).

What happend was i needed to notch the tps and adjust it to the proper voltage at idle. I beleive it was 0.67 volts at idle. At that point it fixed it.

I have a 94 ODB1, but sounds like the same situation.

Didn't think of that. I actually had another thread up after the install concerning TPS code high voltage I was getting. I notched it out and got it to read the stock voltage but I never put the two together. I cant remember if it has done it since I notched it or not.

I totally didn't put it together, so the pcm wasn't exactly flashing because of a misfire but possibly because of a throttle issue? It all makes sense but is it true? I thought the flashing was always misfire
