Flashing SES
Flashing SES
Hey guys..
I did all the SES searches on here and got as much info as possible..
After I put my Long Tubes on, I got a solid SES which is to be expected. Well, I was having a bad stumble. I switched the plugs.. Still had a stumble and noticed one of the wires has fried. Well, no one has the proper wire so I got some spark plug wire and put the ends on the old wire on it (for the opti boot) just to get me by for a few days.
That worked for about a day, then SES started flashing and got a HORRIBLE stumble.. I look at the new wire I put on the opti. Well it wasnt holding in place.. I took it off.. Being as no one has the right wire around here, I got one wire for an LT1 caprice and put it on. Still have the stumble.
Sooo, I'm thinking the opti is going bad. But my question is, is there anyway I know for SURE its the opti before I start taking everything off to change it?? I dont want to spend the $$ on one if thats not the problem. Also, about how much does opti's run??
Any other suggestions, please let me know...
Edit: car has 108,000 on it.

first off, get a new wire on it thats made for the car. Also check all of your other wires to make sure they're not burnt anywhere, I've been having issues with the #7 wire since I changed them with it burning up.
After you verify no wires are burnt up and you replace that one, if its still stumling its opti time. I think its like 187 for a vented one from Jason Cromer

From inspection, all the other wires looked fine.. No arcing or anything.

Other than the length being longer, wouldn't the wire from a LT1 caprice be just the same??

well, more wire equals more area for something to touch a header and burn up on. Also, may have more resistance then a Camaro wire which could be causing it to run rough. Take a multimeter and measure the resistence between that wire and the other 7, it is probably different

Sorry for the 1000 questions, but Im pretty ignorant when it comes to the opti.. Right now, as it is, that wire is no where close to the long tubes, so I dont think it burning is an issue.

I had the same problem about a year ago, changed the plugs and wires, didn't help. I had it checked and turns out it was plugged injectors.

Are these things that'll show up on an OBDII scan??

Can the injectors be cleaned or do they need to be replaced?
