Flapper doors on the fans, what do they do?

Flapper doors on the fans, what do they do?

What do those flapper doors do that are on the fans, theres one at the top on the driver side and one on the bottom on the passenger side.

If you are referring to the rectangular opening in the fan assembly, mine are just wide open and have no flapper. They might have changed it in later years (or someone tore mine off ).

I would guess that they are there to let the fans provide good pull through the radiator when there is not much air being forced in by the car moving forward. As speed increases, so does the air pressure coming through. That probably pushes the flappers open to let more air pass.

I think I remember seeing them on my freinds 94, so it might not be eligible for the list.

My '94 6-speed doesn't have the doors. I'm wondering if they would help at low speed/traffic, especially when the AC is on.

I might have to experiment with them. Think i'll have them down, then try with them hung open...
