Flame spitting backfire

Flame spitting backfire
This problem started when I had a flowmaster installed and hollowed out my catalytic converter. When I run out first or second gear and let off right before it shifts, it quickly revs down(creating alotta awesome noise) and shifts very cleanly. Ever since the exhaust install it'll backfire maybe once or twice a week. 3 weeks ago a couple of my friends were watching me drive and saw fire shoot out the tips when it backfired. Last night I was on my way back to Auburn and ran into a guy in a Z28, We raced and just as I passed him I let off and all he could talk about was the fire that shot out of my car right after I beat him. Its kinda neat, but is this hurting the car?
I've got a pcmforless computer, 3.73 gears, and exhaust. '95 TransAm with 68,000 miles.
Thanks,
DW

I don't think that it is really what you would say harmful. But the reason it does that is because you hollowed out your cat. The unburned fuel is loading up and ignites, shooting a flame out the back. My car did this too, but I didnt worry too much about it.

I don't know you, I just moved down here this semester... My car is maroon with stock wheels and you know the exhaust. But I live up in Broun Hall and my car spends most of its time in front of the stadium. You know anything about Auburn Extreme Racing?

I'm going to try to get in contact with them pretty soon.

I think I have seen your car parked there in C-Zone.
