First Time Changing Opti Pointers
First Time Changing Opti Pointers
Well my opti is shot broke down on the interstate
.I guess it was good for 140K miles.... So I am planning on replacing the opti as well as the waterpump. I ordered the opti and waterpump with 2 wp gaskets from jason. What I am wondering is, is there any other parts I need I was searching about it and read about an opti seal or somthing like that. Also, I read a how to but it did not mention anything about timming, when I take off my balancer do I have to worry about a timming problem? One more thing do I need a special tool to take off the balancer? Thanks in advanced!

Re: First Time Changing Opti Pointers
You will need a 3 claw puller like this http://shbox.com/1/pull_pulley.jpg to remove the crank pulley. I would mark the pulley and install it in the same position as removed. I've read some were weighted from the factory, and if not installed in the proper position they will not do their job as efficiently. They have nothing to do with timing so no need to worry about that.
Re: First Time Changing Opti Pointers
Buy a Fel-pro timing cover gasket kit for $12.00 and replace the opti seal and water pump drive seal while you are there, do a search on water pump seal, if installed incorrectly it will leak terribly.
Also you may not need a puller to separate the balancer from the hub, sometimes they will come off without a puller.
