First night out on new 383/AI Heads

Finally got all the bugs worked out and was able to take her out last night. I didnt beat on it too hard as it is being broke in but i didnt baby it-as per directions from my engine builder.
specs are:
94 z28
a4 converted to m6
383
Forged eagle crank
Forged eagle h-beam rods
SRP forged pistons
Trickflow 210cc Heads done by AI
Custom Cam also by AI
Tuning by Jeff Creech
Pacesetter lonetubes with 2.5inch e-xpipe
Dual flowmaster delta force 'race' mufflers <(loud )
4:10gears w/ eaton posi
BBK 58mm throttle body
42lb injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
Spec stage 3 + clutch
etc etc etc you get the idea.

Its alot different than my old partial bolton motor thats for sure
Its fairly tame untill about 3-3500rpm then it comes alive. Ive only run it up to 5500rpm a few times and its still pullin hard at 5500rpm.
For now iam just cruizing around freakin out the ricers with the occasional pipe shot back at them.
Ill wait untill its got some miles on it before i go to the track or dyno but ill post numbers when I get them.
If anyone from AI reads this I did manage to get a few pics of the motor out of the car but they arent the greatest. Ill take some of it in the car if you want those and send them.
Thanks to AI for a badass heads/cam/valvetrain combo, great service and advice Anytime there was a problem or question they were happy help solve it asap, and didnt bitch about my stupid questions either Highly recommended

Very nice, I'm sure its hard to resist the temptation of not stomping the pedal, but then again you probably only need to have the gas pedal down a 1/4 of the way to beat the fart-can ricer patrols anyhow.

Let her rip. The only break in you need is to seat the rings. As long as you're tuned right, give it hell.

i only had the car for 24 hours before the engine blew (only 67,000 miles). toyota sold me a lemon. the car had a cold air intake, computer chip, and a few internal upgrades. i put another used engine in(toyota bought engine) and a rod was knocking. that was $2400 gone down the drain. so now im doing the original engine with the 383. i got the car in Feb. and had it one day so its going to be fun. its alot of upgrades for one day. total so far close to $6500, no labor

Re: First night out on new 383/AI Heads

The weather is supposed to be cloudy and cold (but no rain) this weekend so if thats the case ill run her a little harder this weekend. Think we got all the bugs out of it for now.
Ill post numbers ASAP.

BTW-nick that sucks about your luck but atleast your building something that will be worth the wait. Last i checked over a month ago I had close to 8k in parts, no labor, and no stock replacement parts (radiator, misc stuff) added yet. Be prepared to spend some $$$

Re: First night out on new 383/AI Heads

After building three engines that failed, I learned the hard way to break it in like you are going to drive it! If its gonna break, its better to find out now then down the road somewhere. I know it sounds harsh, but just seat the rings for 20 minutes or so, then go out and vary the throttle. Find a backroad, and just put her in 4th and go from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle. I would wait until you get the first 50 mile oil change out of the way before you bring the r's up all the way. But, if you break it in this way, it will last forever! that is what I am finding out! AI did my top end, and holy sh*t do I love it! I cant wait to get the new dana 60 and a built auto for it, then I can track that bitch! Right now the motor ate the tranny and the rear. I guess there is such a thing as too much power... who knew?

Re: First night out on new 383/AI Heads

No numbers yet but its over 1000miles now, ran it this past weekend just messing around and no problems.
Took out a 331stroked foxbody tonight from a 20mph roll. Supprised me I thought he might have had me honestly. He had drag radials, i got 245/50/16's firestones on stock wheels. Both spun thru 1st and 2nd then I let up to get traction and by then he hooked and we both took off with me pulling about 3-4 cars on him from 20 to about 80mph when we let off. He said he ran 12.2 on street tires last he ran and I dont know his exact specs either or i'd post them too.
All in all, iam very pleased with it, cant beat the topend combo from AI it flat out hauls ***
Doubting ill make it to a track this year but next spring I should. By then maybe ill have a 12bolt. Ill post dyno numbers ASAP.

How does everyone else like there setups? Any of you got yours going yet? Its been a while since ive been on here.
Catch ya later

P.S. the above mentioned race was on a close course and legal etc etc ;-)
