Fired up 383 1st time WOW!

I finally finished the install The motor is 383 with lt4 heads and intake by TEA cam is 236-244 112lsa and long tubes and all the boltons.I took the advice I got from this board and pulled the coil wire and fuel injector fuse and cranked it over a few times,Then reinstalled fuse and opti wire and tryed to fire her up notta,I had accidently unpluged my ignition module above the coil plugged her in and fired it up sounded so badass with the open headers,I set the fuel prssure at 44 pounds car was holind idle let it run for about 15 minutes varying the rpms from idle to 3000 rpm.Shut it down and changed the oil. This was a look wait car was down a little more then two years but that intainal start up made it all the worth while. Now heres my ? what should my oil pressure be at the lowest reading it reads on the stock gauge 60 at startup and then drops down to little below 40 is this normal?Sorry for it being so long,

40 psi at idle? that isn't bad........ does it drop to 40psi after the engine is all warmed up? or when its still cold? either way you shouldn't have to worry about it, it should jump up to 60psi+ when u touch the gas though.

When it was cold it stayed near 60 when it warmed up went to al little under 40.The oil I am using is non synthetic castrol gtx 10 30 oil and KN oil filter. No you cant prime the lt1 you would have to take the intake off.

Sure! External pump, and plumb it into oil passage above oil filter. Have it fed from line attached to oil pan.

Just start the damn thing geeeez, turn it over without the coil to get some oil movin then start it, ur going to have a second or so without oil pressure anyway you do it basically.

chevy iron,

who built your short block and what kind of bottom end did you go with?
Did TEA port your heads and intake or just do your cam?
Any plans for a dyno run and is your car a 6sp or auto?

I'm building a 383 right now with LT4 heads

Thanks
Tom

If you are getting 40 at idle, hot, that's real good. Your old crank does not get that much.
