Fire extinguisher mount for a non-rollbar car inside

Fabbed up a little bracket with some welding, grinding, paint, and a little hardware to mount an extinguisher in the back. I used the existing mounting perch left from pulling the back seat out.

Fire Extinguisher mount 1

Fire Extinguisher mount 2

Question, comments, snide remarks?

Powerfull statement there 96-speed. Tell ya what that convinces me to go grab a fire extinguisher. With all the moding and playing around we do to these cars I am glad we dont have many fire stories. Maybe we need to start responding to questions that ask "What mod should I do next?" with "Basic Safety equipment".

Thanks. Its a real simple design...

The fire extinguisher was $10
The extinguisher wall mount with the metal strap was $5

I picked up some 2" wide flat bar and cut a couple strips - one 6.5" and one 2-3" piece. Ground down the shorter piece to fit the seatback mounting "ear", and then punched a hole in it. Then drilled 4 holes in the longer piece to mount the extinguisher wallmount bracket. After that I put it altogether in the car and marked the angle. Took it back out and welded it up. Scraped some slag off and painted it up.

That's it . We put about 20 bucks in the whole deal. Chris (Y2K2Sierra) made the clean welds .

I dont have a welder, but one of my buddies does, Maybe i take your instructions and get him to weld it up.

Thanks, Where did you get the extinguisher for ten bucks? and how big is it? Mine is pretty small and (ABC) dry chemical.

Hey 96-speed, do you have any pics of the back of your car with the carpet covering the holes left by the rear buckets? I have been thinking about doing this to mine.

I could take some later tonight, but I don't have any right now. Sorry.

I have an extinguisher in both my Camaros. I personally get them from Sam's Club (Walmart) and they come with a plastic piece and straps to keep them stable, mouted between the 2 rear buckets on the driveshaft tunnel. Looks cool too....

I think it's a good idea to have an extinguisher, but if you had a fire like the "bird roast" I think you'd need something a lot bigger than that $10 extinguisher to put it out.

You'd probably need a firetruck to put out that fire . However, my logic is to have the fire extinguisher there to put the fire out BEFORE it gets out of control, and minimize damage. If you look at the first few pics it looks like there is some smoke, then the fire grows and grows - it didn't explode (however, its impossible to know the fire's growth without video or an eyewitness' description).

FWIW I am going to add another bracket/extinguisher on the pass side of the car as well.
