finally track times with 383

Well made it out to the track saturday and it was hot and humid here in cincinnati ohio. I didn't get the greatest of traction with my 245/60/15 hoosier quicktimes out of the hole but I managed 4 runs fairly consistant.

best run
60ft 1.794
330ft 5.139
1/8 7.916
mph 88.53
1000ft 10.306
1/4 12.309
mph 113.55

any suggestions on how to get into the 11's on the engine setup I got I need to find a little better tire and I'm still on a base madz28 tune for the 847 cam in the stock motor so thats killing me. I have the eibach pro kit do you think I should get rid of it and get the drag launch kit? I'll tak any suggestions just to hit 11's. thanks ahead of time.

get a dyno tune, your mph is down.

Re: finally track times with 383

you think the tune can do it alone? I was beginning to worry my heads and cam were holding me back which I know they are but I dont know how much. Also does anyone think my tci 3000-3400 torque converter is enough stall?

Thats enough RPM for the stall, but I would look into a Vig convertor instead. You would be AMAZED at the difference.

There is a dyno in Ross that I visit every two or three weeks. Shoot me a PM if you want and I can let you know the next time we are headed out there.

Well, you'll pickup a lil mph in the cooler air...Look at some M/T Drag Radials in the 255 50 R16s for your stock 16x8s...The Pro Kit sure is not helping your load transfer...I run the stock springs/decarbon shocks, but I'd look at saving for some QA1s with 275# fronts and coil overs with 150# in the rear. Thats supposed to be the hot ticket for adjustability both on and off the track...They'll be my next suspension mod over the winter...and I totally agree on looking at the Vig converter over the TCI...I've got 10 years on my Vig 3600 and it was one of the best mods I ever did. .5 over the LPE 11" that came with the car and terrific drivability. It helped me to 1.55 60's with the 255 50 R16 M/T Radials last year...

A dyno tune with wide band O2 monitoring is always a good idea to eek out the most of your combo, but don't get too hung up on the numbers...If your tune is good, then you should be ok...Good luck, you're on the bubble for an 11 second run with your mph even in the bad air...You'll be there soon...

Re: finally track times with 383

thanks for the info. The mickey T drag radials will not hook I have 275/40/17's on mine and they wont hook till drive. My buddys got 275/50 15's same tire and it wont hook either. He put my hoosiers on his car and they hooked way better than the m/t's. I think maybe I'll get bigger set of the hoosier quicktimes or some et streets. I may have to change the springs, shocks and torque converter. I gotta get the tune worked out though.

You're working against yourself with the Pro Kit springs and the 17" DRs won't hook as well as the 16s or 15s because of the added sidewall and front to back contact patch afforded by the larger sidewall...I don't know what to tell you about not being able to hook with the M/T Radials, especially with an A4...I 1.55d on the 255 50 16s on stockers all last year...We've got several people in the 1.40s with the 275 50 R15s and some in the 1.20-1.30 range with the 325s. If your suspension is tuned properly, ie pinion angle, rear squared, preload set, appropriate sway bar, etc you'll have no problem hooking on the DRs...Tires like the Hoosiers and ET Streets with softer sidewall will make up for any suspension deficiencies and do hook well, but nothing rides like a radial...

I hooked 1.55-1.59 with the 275 50 R15 M/T DRs with a suspension with everything set wrong (positive pinion angle, rear out of square, etc...We have fixed the problems and will see what we see at a track rental on Friday...

It looks like you have some potential here. I know that car is pretty heavy. To go from 88 to 113.5 shows it has some pretty good pull at the end. You have got to get that thing to hook. Is your front swaybar unhooked? Have you tried different launches? There is at least .4 et just in your first 100 feet. It's an easy 11 sec ride.

Who did the heads?

FYI, I lost 3mph from humidity at the track, so you could possibly be running better mph on a better day.

Re: finally track times with 383

aba383 so you think the drag launch kit would be a major improvement? My buddy's on stock springs and sway bar with his 275/50/15's so that could be why he didn't hook he also has an adjustable torque arm might be set wrong I have the jegs torq arm non adjustable. I have a 1" rear sway bar true the radials ride better but I always just take the hoosiers to the track cause they bite real good maybe I'll get a complete bite with them when I get the suspension worked out. I would love to see those 60 ft #'s I pulled 1.7 with my stock motor now Im at 1.79 makes me sick.

chrism400 I'm going to find out what this thing weighs soon and see if I can shed anything it wont be interior cause I drive my car all the time. Do you think the pull at the end shows that I could possibly need a lower gear ratio to get me out of the hole? I do have the front sway bar removed completely with the 275/40/17's you cant tell any difference in handling so i got rid of it. When I launch I have to flash stall the converter to hook at all if I try to stall it up to 3000 then launch it'll just smoke the tires. Any other launches you suggest?

real quick A board member did the heads, they look good and were said to flow 265 at .600" and still have the stock size valves though. I would like to go back on a better weather day the track said they'll be open the first two weekends in november so I guess I'll try to make it then it'll have to be cool then I hope. but cooler means traction issues will be worse too so lose lose situation on my part.

Re: finally track times with 383

I've never used the drag launch spring kit...If/when I get more serious (I'm still on the stock springs and Decarbon shocks!) I'm going with the QA1 R series double adjustable front shocks with 275# springs and QA1 coil overs in the rear with 150# springs. I know of lots of people running this set up and it helps to hook very well. Being able to adjust the ride height is also a plus...The downside is that they are $$$...I also understand that the Wolf rear drag race sway bar works great, too..I'm using a 1" Spohn chrome moly bar in the rear with the front bar removed..The photo in my sig is a 1.59 60' with the suspension all out of sorts, which has since been corrected. If the weather cooperates I'll get to test everything on Friday...

I think you're going to get better results with an adjustable TA over the Jegs...Pinion angle is critical in helping to keep those tires planted at launch...and I flash stall my car off idle to launch...If I build rpm at the line I'll spin pretty badly, too...

Re: finally track times with 383

I'll try to check into some suspension setups, I cant afford much right now I'm building up my duramax diesel right now which is really $$$$$$. If I can find a good deal on a vigialante or yank converter too everyone's telling me I'll gain .2-3 tenths over the tci with it and a few mph. so thats a must hopefully I can sell my converter to help pay for it. thanks,

Re: finally track times with 383

I've been reading on the board here and I dont feel so bad now looks like other guys are having trouble getting below 12's too and they got better heads and custom cams so maybe well all get lucky and get them figured out and bust 11's at the same time.
