Finally took a look at the opti and got some measurements.
First the opti makes a grinding/scraping noise as you spin the bearing...also if you look at the bearing it is off center and swivels as you spin it. Also if you look in the slot where the opti is suppossed to go there is an impression from the dowel pin. I cant hear a bolt banging around like some said but it obviously doesnt seem reusable.
I got my replacement in today and the difference between the two is very noticable...the new one is going in, in a day or two.
Now I took some measurements of my dowel pin trouble:
First by eyeballing it the dowel pin sticks out of the timing cover.
Secondly as I took the opti bolts out the opti popped off, it defenitly doesnt fit flush.
Third the dowel pin is .650" from the cam gear out.
This is way too long right? I should get it down into the .450 or so area from the end of the cam gear correct?

The total length from the cam out, of my stock pin was ~.650".
From the stock cam gear out was ~.410".
My best estimation of the depth the pin was penetrating my old opti drive is .275". The hole in the opti drive is ~.440" deep. That tells me that the dowel pin could have been longer and still not bottomed out in the opti drive hole. However, with varying tolerances from engine to engine, it would be a good idea to check the depth with some clay.

Thanks that is some valuable info shobox. Now do the cam gear bolts go flush into the impressions of the opti? If this is the case than I can get it pretty close.
What Ill do is measure the max length of the slot in the opti, than make my dowel pin .1 or .2 shorter in the corresponding measurement.
Does this sound like a plan?
