Finally , ordering a Cam

Ok guys after all my BS talking about what cam i want and asking dumb questions im finally about 5 minutes away from ordering a cam.

My car is mostly stock besides the mods in sig

I plan on getting the CC 503 224/230 .503/.510 (stock 1.5 rockers)

also i am ordering 1.6rrs (later on) which would make my lift .536/.544

so with the lift at .536/.544 what springs do u recomend , also what brand rockers/stud size, also should i order SA or Non-SA rockers

lifters and pushrods should be fine? (the car has about 77k on it)

also i plan on a 25-2800 stall

thanks guys

Re: Finally , ordering a Cam

I have an entire spring setup by crane cams. Good to a .600 Lift. Brand new installed but never used(youll see proof when you get them) Comes with springs, locks, retainers and spring seats to be able to fit on stock heads with no modifications. 150$ plus shipping. Let me know-Mark

just wanted to know why you're getting that 503 over the GM 846 or 305 on a 112? I'd call CC and see what springs and everything they recommend with that cam.

Also, for the stall go 3000 or higher. I got a 3200 and wouldn't mind something bigger.

It's really not bad around town....I'd take a stall over a stocker any day for daily driving.

Re: Finally , ordering a Cam

the 503 wasnt one of my main choices, i only decide to go with it b/c its a very popular and and my buddy has it and has no complaints about it.

ive never heard bad things about the cc 503,

another thing i dont plan on running a stall any larger than a 2800 so that would also effect my choice.(dont ask y lol)

i figured the 503 will best suit what i want for my car at the moment.

also is a gear change completly necessary im an A4 (3.23s)?

i still havent ordered the cam do to problems with my Card but it will be straightened out b4 the end of the week.

camr0z28 how much did the cam plus all valvetrain parts end up costing in the end just looking for prices

im prolly gonna go with the same settup as cmroz28

stall will come later

with tuning

hoep i like it, which i have no doubts i will

i really really hope the weather turns i so want to do some install work by myself (with others that actually know what they are doing lol)

sorry for all the questions but will a stock replacement timing chain be ok , i really dont want to dish out the money for the double roller and the E-WP at the moment

Re: Finally , ordering a Cam

spend the money on a good chain now. I'd hate to rip it apart twice to put another decent chain in it.

I used a stock replacement chain. I also used SA rockers, and upgraded my lifters and pushrods.

I would definatly reccomend gears. i had 3.23's also, and it pulls much much better (definatly feel the difference) with 3.73's. If I could go back, I'd probably want a bigger stall too(i have a 2800)...i'd take a 3200 - 3400. But even with the combo i have now, its hard to get any traction, even with drag radials.

Re: Finally , ordering a Cam

Forget the 2800 stall, go with a 3200. You're not going to see any drop in driveablity.

IMO 3.73's are a must for this cam at some point, really wakes the car up and picks up MPH on the big end.

The cc503 is an excellent choice for a stock head car, you won't be disappointed.

As far as supporting components, cmr0z28 gave you the correct list to go by.

Re: Finally , ordering a Cam

I don't know how much the exact total was...I got everything from Bret Bauer (SStrokerAce) but didn't buy it all at once, and I got the rocker arms used off of another guy on this board.

I got Comp Magnum pushrods for $93, Comp timing set, Beehives, locks, retainers, seats for I think $400 shipped, cam was $235ish on sale from Texas-Speed, plus the opti, etc.

Oh, and 7/16" rocker studs were $40...re-using my stock lifters. I can't remember if I bought anything else. I'll have to look in my pile when I get home.

Oh, and GM guideplates were like $25 for 8 from the local dealer. Prepare to spend about $100-125 in gaskets, fluids, RTV, loctite, etc unless you already have some of it.

Hope this helps,
