Finally gonna start it tomorrow!

After a long month or so of weekend working, my h/c swap is coming to a close. But not without a few questions of course...

1. There are 3 small, black solenoid type things I took off of the manifold. One is the EVAP, the other is the EGR (deleted). I have one more sitting here and I'm not sure what it is or where it goes? I know this one is a little vague, but hopefully someone knows what I mean.

2. Just in case of a problem, I was planning on starting it for only a few seconds, with no radiator (obviously no coolant then), and no air intake pieces at all, other than the throttle body. Is all this OK to do for maybe 10-15 seconds, just to make sure it runs?

3. The little sensor on the driver side head, under the headers is broken so I can't plug it in... I dont know what this is, or if it will affect anything. So any info on that will be helpful.

Thats all for now, but I may have more coming. Hopefully I don't sound too dumb quite yet.

Thanks a lot.

1. Look at this site for pictures of what your talking about http://shbox.com/page/index.html

2. I dont think that would hurt anything but maybe sombody else will have some input on that.

3. That sensor is for the temp. gauge on your dash, I would replace that before you run the engine for any amount of time besides a couple min. so that you can keep an eye on things and make sure its not overheating.

I'd rather make sure it even starts at all before EVERYTHING is back on. Just trying to make sure what I have now will do no harm for a few seconds.

I think the little thing I mentioned earlier goes on the one bracket on the ICM/coil. I've been searching shoebox, but it just hit me as I was looking.

Also, is there a name/part number for this temp sensor? I'll need to be replacing it ASAP.

Reads like you've answered your own question. I've never started an engine w/out coolant. I'd rather not take any chances after busting *** in trying to improve on an engine. If you are bent on starting it then only start it to fire. A few seconds meaning maybe 2 to 3 seconds. Don't leave it running for 10 or 15 seconds.

The only reason I ask is because I remember reading a thread, probably a year ago at least, that someone was asking about their intial start up and I thought I remember someone actually advising them to make sure it sure it starts before filling it up again. Just wanted to make sure. But it seems like you guys are pretty much against it, so I think I'll at least fill it up with water, then change it later. I was planning on getting the system flushed soon anyways.

You won't hurt anything by starting the motor for a few minutes without coolant.

The little black thing I mentioned earlier goes on the coil, it looks like it connects to the EGR solenoid, which I'm deleting. It also has another little line coming from it but I see no place for it to go. Anyone know what this is? Can I get rid of it?
