Finally back in an F Body

I finally got my Formula today. It's a 94 Automatic, paid $3000 asking price was $3250.

I just have some minor questions for you guys, hopefully you can help.

First there is a sound coming from the back of the car. It sounds like a warped rotor or a brake dragging. As I go faster the noise becomes faster. I didn't really notice it on the highway.
What could that be?

Also, the Low coolant light is on but the coolant is full.

and lastly the Passenger headlight doesn't pop up by itself.

How major are these problems?

Try and help and F Body brother out please, let me know the first things I should do.

Car is stock except for a KN Filtercharger intake and what looks like slotted rotors. Car has 116,000 miles.

Thanks,

Dan

the brake sound could be the driveshaft.

The low coolent light is common.. replace the sensor or just unplug it.

Dunno about the headlight, i have a camaro.

I doubt the noise coming from the rear is the driveshaft unless it's rubbing against the exhaust pipe. Best thing to do is get it up in the air, remove the wheels and check everything over. As for the headlight motor, it's likely the motor is burned out. Disconnect it and apply 12 volts to it to double check.

Replace the headlight gear with the brass gear you can find on the internet. Itll save hassle in the future of the teeth wearing out on the nylon gear in stock motors.

Re: Finally back in an F Body

The motor works, I think, it makes a grinding sound when I turn the headlights off. The car is realy clean, I'll post pictures up after I wash and detail it this weekend.

I hope it's not the driveshaft. I see the kid installed slotted rotors and I'm hoping it's that. It doesn't sound or feel like the rear either. Would the rear axles make a noise? Do they go bad?

Thanks,

Dan

I had a bearing on my posi grenade itself and chew up my ring & pinion. That kind of thing happens. When I first got my car back in 02 the pinion seal went which made a loud noise but the car drove fine. Check everything over and I'd recommend pulling the center section cover on your rear to inspect the oil and parts inside. It'll give you an excuse to change the gear oil anyway. Axels dont really go bad everything else will first in general.

If I bring the car to a mechanic to look for the noise how much do you think they would charge?

I usually do all the work myself, I'm afraid of mechanics, they always try to get over on you lol.

Depends on if you get the work done there. If you get it diagnosed there and fixed there, they'll most likely not charge you for the diagnosis. But if you take the car back to fix it yourself after they diagnose it, they will probably charge you for how long it actually took them or maybe just like $20 or so if it was an obvious problem. Mechanics generally don't like to do this though.
