Finally!! An aftermarket air filter for us SS Guys!

Apparently it just drops right in; same dimensions. Anyone out there who has a K&N, its probably 1/2 an inch not tall enough.

Well, K&N has had one that fit from the very beginning. I believe it was a Jeep filter. Then Holley came out with one that was even better because the pleats were vertical rather than horizontal. So I don't know what they are talking about now----and as far as 15 hp, I doubt it, unless you consider that a CAI with a gauze filter will provide that much more over an enclosed paper filter, then maybe that's where it is.

Looks like I may have to get a new auto parts guy. I called him and gave him the dimensions and he said there was nothing out there.

I called SLP once and they said the same thing.

I've had this filter for years, but every time I'd post about it some dweeb would say I didn't know what I was talking about, because they didn't exist??? Don't recall the part number.

A few years back, it was determined that a filter was not available even though it would fit. The reason SLP and K&N said it wouldn't work is because they tried it--and even used grease---to seal the bottom, they claimed that it was subject to being blown off the base allowing dirt to get in. I, however decided to get the Jeep filter and seal it down with 3M double-sided tape. Never noticed any problems.

Now the K & N Jeep filter has horizontal pleats and I suppose that enough wind pressure could push it back a tad, however, I switched it out for the Holley filter which has vertical pleats and so it is more rigid from front to back and less subject to being pushed off the base.

THe K & N is red and the Holley is blue---they are both made of surgical gauze and can be reused after washing and reoiling with the filter kits.

If you do a search on Holley filters for the SS, you should be able to locate it. I suggest going with the Holley.

I'm still curious about this, supposedly NEW filter now available for the SS and just what makes it NOW usable when in the past it was considered a no no.

Perhaps one can get a description of the NEW filter which may enlighten us all about the sudden change of mind.

According to another thead, the dimensions ar 13.5 X 6.75 (I really don't remember) anyway there used to be the 2 filters that matched those dimensions---the Jeep and the Dodge. The difference being that the Jeep filter was tall enough whereas the Dodge filter was too low.

The K&N part number is 33-2175 and the dimenstions are 13.33 (length) x 6.75 (Width) X 1.0 (Height). The stock paper filter, and the Blackwing filter is 1.5 in height.

K&N filter actually comes with a thin foam strip that appears to go around the inside of the airbox, but it doesn't look like it will do much.

SLP sells the entire set up so they have them. Not sure if they would sell the clips individually though. Worth a shot to call them. Worst they can say is "no".

Gee that was speedy! The LT1 SS is how many years old now?
My airbox and lid are heat warped all to hell from using the Jeep K&N filter since it fit like absolute *** so off it went.

Guess I have to consider myself lucky. I picked up my SS about 2 months ago. Actually got the Jeep air filter, took it home, put it in the airbox with the plastic still on, but never installed it. Needless to say, I am going to order the blackwing.

I am also lucky because the guy I bought the car from kept it 100% stock.
