finalizing my cam selection...and a question about lsa

First off, from a performance standpoint, what does changing the LSA do? i understand WHAT the lsa is but what effect does having a very tight seperation over a wider seperation have on performance?

With that being said, i have the new shortblock all ready to rock, heads are halfway home-ported, got all my valvetrain parts, only thing left is picking a cam. I was pretty set on the cc306(230/244, .544/.576 112) but then i found another cam by lunati(don't know if they even carry it anymore but i saw the specs listed on some website) that got me very intrigued, it's 232/242 .544/.560 on a 108 lsa. Any thoughts?

The setup will be a 3500lb or so 95 trans am convertible with a 6-speed. i'll be running 3.42 gears in the stock dif until i can afford a 9" with most likely 3.90s or 4.10s.

I'm also not very interested in putting together a custom cam. thanks in advance.

For normally aspirated engines, more overlap can help make power by having the expelling exhaust gases help pull-in the intake gases. On forced induction engines, you want less overlap so that boost is not lost out the exhaust ports.

LSA is a PRODUCT of lobe placement not something that should be speced from the start. Best bet is to get a cam with the LSA where it was originally speced. When people want "X" cam but them want the lobes spread they throw away power but get a smoother running engine, if you wanted it smooth then you need to pick a mild cam not spread too large a cam.
