Final Electric Water pump thread

OK before you ask yes I did a search and read lots of stuff. Here are some questions I still had after reading it all.

1. Some say to take the gear out and some say to leave it. Has anyone had any trouble from leaving the old water pump gear in place? I do not want to tear into my motor that far if I dont have to.
2. My water pump really crapped out and covered my Opti with coolant. I washed it all off with a hose the best I could but will this hurt my opti? Should I clean it with Brakleen or something like that?
3. I noticed some guys talking about board members that sell wiring kits and warning kits etc. Does anyone have a list of there names and numbers contact info websites etc. I would lke to get the wiring right and the warning kit from somewhere and board members usually know where the problems are and how to fix them.
4. Do I need to get a freeze plug for the weep hole as well as the back of the water pump housing?

Thanks everyone in advance

Either way it doesnt matter, I think I left mine in. Some RTV a 50 cent peice in there, or is it a quarter? I dont know one or the other.

Only thing you can do is try it, opti's are mysterious creatures, sometimes they can last 200,000 miles, some only 30,000.

I have the wiring kit you want. I got it from Spartus from the impalass forums. I dont plan on using it so if you want to buy it I'll sell it to you. Do a search on it, I made a thread about the wiring kits. This is the best one.

No need to freeze the weep hole, but the E-WP kit should come with a freeze plug for the back. My CSR did.

Thanks everyone in advance

Re: Final Electric Water pump thread

You should use a freeze plug on the timing cover and a lot of silicone to prevent leakage.

There are a few people that sell warning kits that tell you when the pump has failed working, not when there is no more current going to the pump. I have their names, just have to do some digging. Give me time since I am at work and have a few meetings to attend.

I don't think the "warning kits" are needed. Just check to make sure you hear it before you start your car, KOEO. And watch your gauges regularly.

Re: Final Electric Water pump thread

BERSA let me know how much you want for the kit shipped to 04349 Fayette, ME
BDC I check my guages quite a bit but it would be nice to have a warning buzzer if your car was getting to hot. I am not sure what the warning kits include I assumed some sort of buzzer or light if the car starts to get hot.
I am consirering leaving the gear in I couldnt find anyone that had a problem from it and it makes the job much quicker and easier.

if you leave the gear in, make sure you take the shaft out....they left mine in and I had all sorts of problems.

Do you mean the coupler shaft or the whole gear shaft?

Re: Final Electric Water pump thread

I just installed a CSR on my buddy's 94 Z. I found a write up on this board using the AIR pump relay. It works great and uses the factory AIR harness to plug right up. If you're OBD1 theres no need for a wiring kit, just go that way. I had the wiring done in maybe 25 minutes. He did the actual install of the CSR into the WP housing and freeze plug (not so hot on that part) so I dont know what he took out. I had to use a small bolt along with some RTV on the weep hole.

Re: Final Electric Water pump thread

You do not need to plug the weep hole,at least with the CSR. Just folow the wiring instructions in the wrie-up, its pretty simple, Leave the WP gear in, just remove the coupler (save it for possible use one day). I ranquite a few miles with the gear in, untill my rebuild when I removed it and plugged the hole with a freeze plug.

Thanks guys I found a bunch of stuff in here about night mare jobs my coupler stayed on the WP and it all came out pretty decent except for the limited space I took it out through the top next time I think I would tkae the upper fan off to give me just a bit more room.

Where can I get that wiring kit? You say it uses the AIR pump harness? I have OBDI, let me know, thanks!

The wiring kit I was speaking of was for engine safety not just function.

1. Take out the coupler shaft, you will want to leave the gear in otherwise you lenghten install time by a lot, with absolutly no gain. Now if you were changing the timming chain at the same time then i'd say go for it, but make sure if you do remove it that it has to go back in when/if you want to put a stocker on. You can leave the gear in just spins freely and does nothing. I recomend leaving it in.

2.Coolant is never good for these delicate optis. Clean it off as best you can and cross your fingers. I spilled coolant on my opti, but didn't really matter too much since i run the delteq system.

3. There is a schematic that is floating around. Was posted in another WP thread just the other day i believe.

4.If you purchase a Mesizire water pump everything is included the freeze plugs and all. Can't say for the other's though.

Explains everything even with a schematic. Very easy.

Re: Final Electric Water pump thread

so which one is better?

meziere or CSR?

which one lasts longer typically?
i know the meziere is rated to a higher GPH than the CSR, but which one is more effective?

Thanks!
